Alf Victor Lauritz Bostrom

Alf Victor Lauritz Bostrom, 91, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, due to complications associated with advanced age.

Alf was born on August 21, 1926, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Swedish emigrant parents: Lauritz Petter (Eriksson) Bostrom, and Ida Victoria (Gustafsson) Bostrom.   He grew up in Murray and Salt Lake City, Utah.   Upon completing high school at Granite High School (Salt Lake City, UT) in 1944, he joined the Navy to serve in the Pacific fleet during WWII.   After returning from military service, he left his home again in 1947 to serve as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Sweden.

After his mission he met and married Betty Gene Blomquist of Salt Lake City, Utah, in the Salt Lake Temple on September 8, 1949.  They started their married life in Murray, Utah.  Together they raised 6 children and lived in Utah, California, Texas, and Arizona.

Alf was a prominent business man and car dealer. He served faithfully in leadership roles in the LDS church.   Later in life, Alf and Betty served two additional LDS missions to Sweden and served several years as Temple workers in the Salt Lake Temple.

He served many roles in his business career but mostly he prided himself as a teacher.  He enjoyed traveling to many foreign countries with his wife, Betty.  He loved to share his life experiences with family and friends.

A loving father, grand-father, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, he was always devoted to his family.

He is survived by his six children: Laurita G. Smith (Walter), Brigham City, UT;  Sonja L. Huish, Costa-Mesa, CA; Allen B. Bostrom (Sheri), serving as President of the LDS Mission in Armenia; Victor E. Bostrom (Linda), Logan, UT; Kevin L. Bostrom (Monica), Naperville, IL; and Kenneth B. Bostrom (Ragen), Sandy, UT; as well as 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and one sister: Svea Sofia Victoria (Bostrom) Paul, Murray, UT.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Gene (Blomquist) Bostrom, his parents, and his great-granddaughter Logan Rylee Bostrom.

A viewing will be held at the LDS Winder 12th Ward meeting house, 4350 So. 1100 East, Salt Lake City, Utah, on Monday, February 19th, 2018, at 10:00am-10:45am.   Services will follow, at the same location, beginning at 11am.   Internment will be at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Utah.
