Aida Marticorena de Lopez

On April 25, Aida quietly passed away at 77 years of age, in her home, surrounded by family, in Murray, Utah. 

Aida was born in 1943 in Inca de Oro, Chile. She was the only daughter born to Isaias del Carmen and Lucrecia Marticorena. She was named after the opera which her mother loved to listen to.

Aida placed a high value on education. She originally obtained a nutritionist degree from the University of Chile. While working as a teacher’s aide in Whittier, California, she obtained her credentials to teach as an elementary school teacher from the University of California. She went on to get her Master’s Degree at Utah State University and her certification to be an assistant Principal from the University of Utah.

Aida and her husband, Osvaldo, moved from Chile to California in 1964. Their families had been friends since Aida was two and Osvaldo was ten years old. 

Aida had always wanted a large family so she surrounded herself with her children in the classroom. Her love of teaching kept her in the classroom well past her retirement age. Even after she retired from elementary school teaching, she continued teaching her water aerobics classes for seniors. 

She was a devout Roman Catholic who served humbly as a Eucharistic minister for many years.

Osvaldo, her loving husband of 55 years, her children, Pam (John) MacDonald and Albert (Shona) Lopez, her brothers, Fermin, Sergio and Fernando, her 4 grandchildren, Lauren, Mauricio, Kami and Alicia, and 1 great grandchild will miss her greatly.

Aida is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Albert.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 11:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 East Spring Lane. She will be laid to rest next to her parents in the columbarium at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery. For those who are unable to attend, the service may be viewed live by returning to this page prior to the service where at "Watch Service Live" button will appear.  Aida enjoyed giving to others by donating both her time and treasure to many different charities. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that financial donations be made in her name to the favorite charity of your choice.
