Ann Nies Montague, age 88, passed away peacefully October 20, 2020, surrounded by her family. She was born in Buffalo, NY to Frank L. and Victoria P. Nies, and married Ross C. Montague whom she shared 64 years of marriage.

Ann was the first in her family to graduate from college, becoming a Registered nurse. She worked in the medical field for over 40 years. When she retired, she had been working as an operating room nurse at the Salt Lake City Veterans’ Administration Hospital. She was very passionate about her career. Her intellect and compassion combined to make her an incredible nurse.

When Ann retired she became active at the Heritage Senior center in Murray, UT. She organized bridge games and tournaments and was recognized as an outstanding volunteer who had contributed 1,000 hours of service. She was also a member of the “Friends Bridge” group where they met monthly for bridge and lunch. The friends made during that time lasted the rest of her life.

Ann was a life long sports fan. She cheered on us kids during our little league years and always cheered for the Buffalo Bills and the Utah Jazz.

She is survived by her loving husband, Ross; Children: Timothy, Holladay, UT; Michael (Marsha), Tonawanda, NY; Daniel (Maggie), Cottonwood Heights, UT; and Judy, Sandy, UT. Much loved grandmother to 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Also survived by sister Pauline Schmit, Corfu, NY.  And many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her other siblings, sister Margaret, brothers Clifford and Frank.

Ann lived her whole life as a Roman Catholic and was a faithful member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sandy, UT. A private family funeral mass will be celebrated in her honor.
