John David Ergle

May 11, 1966 - May 14, 2021

On May 14, 2021, John Ergle, dad, brother, uncle and friend went to the loving arms of his Lord and Savior when he suddenly passed away soon after taking the Covid Vaccination.

John was born May 11, 1966 to John and Ann Ergle who loved him very much. He lived most his life in Salt Lake City, Utah. He loved to ski in his younger years and was very adventurous. John was very courageous throughout his life; even when facing difficult times, he stood his ground.

He enjoyed music and playing his friend’s guitar that was covered in fake autographs. They used to laugh about it. He loved many outdoor activities and especially boating at Flaming Gorge and brought along extended family for memorable boating and fishing trips.

He married his love, Lorri Lake, and together they worked in youth counseling for a while. They had a son named Jacob whom John loved very much. Eventually they later divorced. John always looked forward to his times with his son and was very proud of Jacob and the way he grew into an amazing young man.

John had life-long childhood friends who he cherished and remained close to. They commented on his big heart and how he would give the shirt off his back to help others. He often took gifts to the neighbors and always enjoyed chatting with them. He had a delightful sense of humor that brought much laughter, even to strangers. He loved to socialize and had a lot of charisma. People noticed him and looked forward to seeing him.

John struggled with drug addiction but overcame it and remained clean for 14 years straight, always celebrating the day of his recovery with enthusiasm!  Alcoholism was another big struggle for him, but almost a year prior to his death he stopped drinking as well. He was blessed to pull through many obstacles, like the “cat with nine lives”. Several years before he died, he committed his life to Jesus Christ and looked to God for his salvation.

John is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his son Jacob, his sister Evie and her husband Jeff, as well as many nieces and nephews. John will be missed very much by his family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 6th, 1:30 p.m. at Rosewood, 464 East 3700 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84115.
