Melvin F. Harward

June 22, 1937 - November 1, 2021

Melvin Farrell Harward passed away peacefully at his home in Taylorsville, UT on November 1, 2021 after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born to Ike Harward and Eva Goode Harward on June 22, 1937, the oldest of the three boys.  Melvin married Mary Dawn Hawke in November of 1958.  They had five children, later divorced in 1977.  He married Patricia Wood on June 18, 1982.  Pat had one son, Jesse Wood and Mel had 5 children when they married.  They spent his remaining 40 years together working hard and enoyed traveling a little, camping, visiting children and grandchildren and many different callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  Mel loved his family and enjoyed the outdoors with them and over the years he enjoyed a variety of hobbies.  He enjoyed golf, archery and loved the archery elk hunt as well as the rifle season and black powder hunt.  He loved going to Lake Powell when he worked for Barnes Bullets, then Cobra Firearms in Salt Lake (later changed the name to Bearman) and worked there until he was too disabled to work.  He enjoyed working there for about 5 or 6 years.  Mel spend 45 years as an electrician with Interstate Electric and was a member of the IBEW Local 354 and served on the supervisory board of the IBEW Credit Union.  Mel was loved by many and blessed the lives of many people with his skills and talents.  He could do almost anything.

He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Lisa Harward and son, Greg Harward.  He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Pat) Harward, and his children Garth (Syd) Harward, Brad Harward, Kent (Sandy) Harward and Jesse Wood.  He has 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.  His siblings are Alvin (Cecelia) Harward, Dee Harward (Pam) and Mark Harward (Pam).

Pallbearers are Tyler Wood, Dylan Wood, Kade Harward, Cole Harward, Lance Leany, Jeff Harward and Kent Harward.  Honorary pallbearers: Jesse Wood, Dee Harward and Mark Harward.

The Harward family would like to thank the members of the Heritage Park 5th Ward for their kindness and help as well as Inspiration Hospice for all they did. Also a special thanks to Starks Funeral Parlor for going the extra mile and their patience helping us prepare for this special occasion.

Friends are invited to celebrate Mel's life.  A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 9 at 11:00 AM at Hertage Park 5th Ward, 4986 South Valois Drive (2200 West) Taylorsville, where a viewing will begin an hour prior at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Redwood Memorial Park, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan.
