Margaret Barben Butterfield

The dash between those dates encompasses the life of a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother and friend that was lived to the fullest.

Margaret was born on May 12, 1931 and was the ninth child of William and Ruth Barben of West Jordan.

She was a hard worker her entire life.  One of her first jobs was working in the West Jordan sugar beet factory.  In later years she worked for Jordan School District as an administrator of the food service program.

Margaret was courted by and eventually married Dean Butterfield in the Salt Lake Temple, 17 Nov 1949.  They built a home in Taylorsville where they raised their three children.

She had a strong testimony of the gospel and she served in various callings within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Margaret loved her family.  She spent time bowling, camping, attending the ball games of her kids and grandkids, and playing card and domino games with family and friends. She was especially proud of her Swiss heritage and would take her family to Swiss Days festivities in Midway each September.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dean, sisters Jennie (Markus), Virginia (Whittle), Thelma (Rosenkrantz), Janet (Divett), brothers Howard, Francis, Floyd, Arlo, Joseph, and daughter Judy (Hansen). She is survived sons Brent (Kim) and DeMar (Ann); grandkids Jasen (Kari), Tarina (Paul), Tami (Steve), Taunie (James), Ryan (Darla), Craig, Camille (Brad), Brittany (Brian), Bryce (Tessa), Reese (Drew) and Carson; and 17 great-grandkids. To the great grandkids, her name was grandma whoopi.

A private celebration of life will be held on Monday, December 27th from 6 to 8PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, SLC. A family graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 28th at 10 AM at West Jordan City Cemetery, 1300 West 7800 South, West Jordan.
