Reed was born to Reed & Elizabeth Aitken on December 30, 1953 and was the oldest of seven children.

He took his “Big Brother” role very seriously, served a mission in Brazil for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and spoke three languages.

Reed was proud of his Scottish Heritage and loved vacationing in Scotland & Amsterdam.

He is survived by his wife, best friend and loving partner of 34 years, Kim Noorda Aitken.

He also leaves behind his children Mark Bryant (Debbie); Bryan Aitken (Wendy); Brandon Merrill, Amy Merrill, Marci Hassen (Mark); Danny Aitken (Nikki): Heidi Evans (Jakob); Holly Crabtree (Jordan); Jan Barba (Ramon) and 21 Grandchildren.

His favorite activities were pool parties, anything to challenge his brain, eating key lime pie (staple the last 30 days of his life) and loved working at Noorda Architectural Metals.

Reed loved people and could talk to anyone, a trait he got from his mother. Those who knew Reed would describe him as kind, gentle, patient and of the highest integrity

We will miss him a great deal and are committed to continuing his legacy of hard work, kindness, and making sure others feel valued.

A celebration of Reed's life will be on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and an intimate memorial service Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 11:00 am at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the parking on the north side of the building.
