Dieter W. Bauer

Our beloved father, husband, brother, Opa and friend to all, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2022 at the age of 89. Dieter was born on September 30, 1932 in Hohendorf, Wolgast Germany to parents Ewald Frederich Bauer and Ilse Emma Louise Grunert. At a young age Dieter and family were forced to flee from their village in Germany at the end of WW2, moving from place to place before eventually crossing

the border from East to West Berlin. Dieter was extremely brave and helped protect his family while his father was away. Eventually the family relocated to the United States. He served in the U.S. Army and met his wife Jacqueline Mary Skerritt who became his love and his life. The two had seven children. Dieter studied at the University of Michigan and pursued a career in Aerospace Engineering. He was responsible for inventing and earning the patent for the carbon-carbon composite material used on many aircraft brake systems, including the Concorde, the Osprey and the Space Shuttle.

Dieter was a warm hearted, caring and passionate man who loved his family and friends over and beyond. He loved taking his children on camping trips and celebrating the Christmas holiday. He was a teacher at heart and encouraged his children and grandchildren to explore life and to get educated. He loved art, history and world affairs and was very proud of the art done by his forefathers. He often spoke about the etchings, paintings and figurines done by relatives Rudolf and Conrad Henschel that were kept within the family. Dieter was influential in the lives of those around him. He did everything he could to inspire people to do great things. He loved to dance at all occasions with his wife Jackie and to show her off. He was a strong, dynamic and loving man.

Dieter is survived by his wife Jacqueline Bauer and children; Deidre Hopkins, Eric Bauer, Marlene Granger, Andrea Heart, Mark Bauer, Kristin Bauer Brown and Karin Bauer as well as sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Father Sam Dinsdale of Blessed Heart Sacrament Church for his care and blessings and the staff of Starks Funeral Parlor.

Funeral services will be held April 14, 2022 at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, California.
