Richard 'Dick' C. Romano

March 11, 1945 - June 9, 2022

Richard C Romano (Dick) passed away on June 9, 2022.  He was born March 11, 1945 in Holy Cross Hospital, Salt Lake City to Mary and Bruno Romano.  He loved growing up in Rose Park and Bountiful, Utah with his brothers and sisters, JoAnn (Frank Knell); Mike (Carrie) and Corby (Kenna) and Carol (deceased).  Dick’s Uncle Ted taught him to play baseball, and they forever shared a special bond.

Dick graduated from Judge Memorial Catholic High School in 1963, where he made many lifelong friends.  He attended the University of Utah while he worked at Sears selling paint.  He then stepped in to take over his father’s company as a private investigator and remained there throughout his life, until 2015 when he was diagnosed with a degenerative neurological condition related to an injury and moved into a care center.

He married Janet Childers in 1965 and they had two beautiful children; Rich (Bridget Hintze) and Carrie (Anthony Cordova).  His children and three grandchildren were the light and pride of his life; Isabel and Simon Romano and Ellie Cordova. He often referred to them as his greatest accomplishment. He loved hosting parties and Sunday dinners for family and friends. He loved Christmas and showering presents on his loved ones.  Every holiday was reason for a party but it didn’t take a holiday – anytime worked for a backyard Sport Court party.  Although he was the life of the party, he would start washing dishes before everyone was finished eating.  He liked cleaning and at one point owned twelve vacuums. He found peace and joy at Lake Powell and headed out most Fridays in the summer. He wasn’t the best boat driver, but somehow, we survived and many years of happy memories were made fishing, skiing and boating with friends and family.  He was proud of his Italian heritage and a highlight of his life was visiting his ancestral home in Italy where he met his great Aunt and Uncle deleRosa.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 10:30 am at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 331 East South Temple Street, Salt Lake City. A celebration of Dick's life will be Tuesday, July 12, 2022 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.  Dick’s family is deeply grateful to Dr. Jacqueline Rohrer and Stacy Suzuki, Salt Lake County Aging Services for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Judge Memorial Catholic High School, Ronald McDonald Charities Intermountain Area or the Kessler Foundation for brain injury research.
