Yvonne Zody, our loving daughter, mother, sister and friend passed away peacefully with her mother, father, and sister holding her hands on May 10th, 2017.

Yvonne was born August 4, 1969 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Marcelo and Dini Droguett. She attended Highland High School and Westminster College graduating with an Associate Degree as Paralegal.  She married Michael Zody in 1998 and later divorced.

Yvonne is survived by three sons Griffin (age 17), Isaac (age 15) and Alex (age 13).  They were the light of her life - her pride and joy.  She spend untold hours making baby food, cupcakes and supporting their academic efforts at St. Vincent de Paul.  She was an amazing mother and she focused on nothing but making their lives filled with happiness until she succumbed to alcoholism. She adored her boys and she was proud to be their mother.

Yvonne had many friends who enjoyed her outgoing personality and kind, giving heart.  She had a great smile for everyone.  Yvonne loved to entertain.   She loved to cook and discover recipes to delight her family and friends.  That continued even as she was drawn in by addiction to alcohol,  which took her down a long, dark, and difficult journey.  She fought hard many times for sobriety but alcohol eventually ravaged her mind, her body, and has now taken her life.

Alcoholism is a disease - it is a disease of isolation and a disease of one's free-will.  It begins without warning as an invasion of the brain until the choice to stop is no longer an option.  It then isolates and destroys the life of the individual and their loved ones.  Please educate your children about the dangers of drinking - both short and long term - and the power of abstaining.

Yvonne is survived by her parents; sister Sonya (Francisco) Droguett-Kjolseth; sons Griffin, Isaac, and Alex; and her nephew Teo, whom she loved having at her house.  She was preceded in death by grandparents Dina and Peter Goudriaan (Salt Lake City); Yolanda and Jorge Droguett (Santiago Chile); uncle and aunt Max and Inge Goudriaan (Salt Lake City).

The family would like to thank Sophia, Lavi and the Danville staff for their tireless care for Yvonne and thank you to Rachel and Hearts for Hospice for their work of angels helping Yvonne and our family find comfort during this difficult time.

There will be a Wake and viewing where friends may call on Tuesday, May 16th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking provided on the north side of the building. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 17th at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 E. Spring Lane, Salt Lake City. Interment to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South, Salt Lake City.

In lieu of flowers, please honor Yvonne's love of dolphins and the ocean by making a donation to Blue Voice at http://www.bluevoice.org/ - an organization that works tirelessly to protect Dolphins, Whales and our oceans.
