Our beloved husband, father and friend, Frank, passed away peacefully at his home in Salt Lake City on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the age of 78.
Frank was born in Grinnell, Iowa on March 4, 1939. He graduated from Tama High School in 1956 and received a degree in Broadcast Journalism in 1960 from the University of Iowa.
Three of the great loves in Frank's life were his wife of 41 years, Barb, his beloved children Stephanie and Kevin with sports broadcasting coming in a close fourth. His time as the "Voice of the Cyclones" at Iowa State University was the highlight of his professional life. He was also sports anchor for WOI-TV in Ames for over 20 years. Even late in life, all Frank had to do was speak and that voice was the perfect reminder of his career. He started a second career in insurance and investments for 11 years in Kearney, Nebraska. Following the Snyder family's move to Salt Lake City, Frank spent 14 years making friends with his colleagues in the University of Utah's Office of Continuing Education.
Frank loved entertaining with Barb, gourmet cooking, doing crossword puzzles, extensive international travel, telling stories and SPORTS. Two lifetime thrills were seeing the Kansas Jayhawks win the 2008 Men's Final Four and his Cubs win the World Series in 2016. Every weekend was another opportunity to cut the tv sports guide from the Salt Lake Tribune and mark off the important games of the day. He had an uncanny ability to connect with others. People were drawn to his sense of humor and humility.
He leaves behind a heartbroken family including his wife, Barb; daughter Stephanie, Warsaw, Poland; son Kevin (Natalie) Wetumka, Alabama; brother Merle (Diane) Ashburn, Virginia; and sisters Norma (Harold) Tama, Iowa and Joann, Sandy, Utah.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 2:30 p.m at the University of Utah Fort Douglas Post Chapel, 120 Ft. Douglas Blvd., Salt Lake City, Utah followed by a gathering of friends and loved ones at the Fort Douglas Commander's House, 1965 De Trobriand Street, Salt Lake City.
