Antonio (Tony) Furano passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 22, 2017. He was born to Pete and Rose Furano on June 11, 1949. A graduate of Judge Memorial Catholic High School (1967) and the University of Utah, his entire professional career was spent at Kennecott Copper as an environmental analyst. He was a lifelong, devoted Catholic and a founding member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and active with CYO, CCD, DDD, Marriage Encounter, Engaged Ministry, Eucharistic Ministry and Parish Council. He volunteered in the community with Junior Achievement, Judge Alumni Association and Multiple Sclerosis Society for 2 decades. He married his high school sweetheart, Charlene Cvar, in 1970. With the help of her son, Charlene fulfilled his greatest wish, to stay with her in their home. Their love and devotion was unconditional and inspirational. The joy of their lives are their 3 children, Gina Attallah (Tammer), Tony, Tessa Hale (Mark), as well as Aziza, Isabelle, and Ella their granddaughters. He celebrated and passed on his Italian heritage in the preparation and sharing of a good meal.

He enjoyed dancing, gardening, fishing, baking, family time at the cabin and playing with his granddaughters. For years, he looked forward to Tuesday movies and anchovies with his nephew, Michael.

Without saying a word, he connected with people through his beautiful smile and optimism. His patience, strength, and faith sustained him and those around him through years of ill health and disability.

He was committed to maintaining his health through physical therapy (even after being confined to a wheelchair fourteen years ago). All those who contributed to Tony's quality of life are too numerous to mention. You know who you are, and we are grateful for your love, support and generosity. Special thanks to all the caring health professionals who offered their services and friendship over these many years.

He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings Carreen Holdaway (Justin) and Dino Furano (Robyn Young), and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law, Lydia and Fred Cvar.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Adult Services Program at the Riverside Neighborhood House in downtown Salt Lake City. They honored him for many years.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM with a vigil service beginning at 7:00 PM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 11:00 AM also at St. Thomas More.
