Donald James Morgan
Don Morgan, age 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of August 15th, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, to William and Kitty Morgan, Dad spent his childhood on the farm in Millington, New Jersey, with his older brother Bill. After high school, Dad joined the army and served his country as a dental assistant in a MASH unit in South Korea. Dad was a gifted singer, dancer and actor who honed his talents while attending Lafayette College, graduating in 1957. After graduation, Dad joined Armstrong World Industries (AWI), where he excelled in sales and marketing. Devoting his career to AWI, Dad worked his way up to National Sales Manager in the corporate offices in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Dad met his soulmate, Nannette Hammond, early in his career while employed in AWI's Detroit office. Married in 1959, they embarked on a lifetime journey raising their four adoring children. During his career working for AWI, they crisscrossed the country making lifelong friends along the way.
After retiring in 1989, Mom and Dad settled in Park City, Utah, to be closer to the kids and grandkids. He was a devoted Catholic, an avid golfer, a reluctant skier, and a willing volunteer. He spent much of his retirement in a second career, serving others. Dad volunteered at the Vail Valley Medical Center, served as a Park City Ambassador, delivered meals for the Meals on Wheels program, served meals at Salt Lake City's St. Vincent de Paul's Soup Kitchen, and delivered blood for the American Red Cross. Dad enjoyed hiking with his dog Lady and riding his mountain bike. Over the years, Mom and Dad traveled the world, frequently merging their love of golf and travel.
Dad was the most loving, compassionate, faithful, and generous person to walk this earth. If you knew him, you were better for it. His light will burn forever in our hearts and shines brightly now in heaven. We will miss his joyful sense of humor, his singing, and his talent for doing impressions.
Dad is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nannette, their four children, Mike (Cindy), Jim (Anne), Bill (Liz), Kathy (Matt), 14 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to pay special thanks to the loving, caring, and devoted staff of Legacy Village of Sugarhouse. They provided wonderful support to Dad during the last several months of his life.
Family and friends will gather for a Mass in Dad's honor, Saturday August 25th at the Carmelite Monastery, 5714 Holladay Blvd, Salt Lake City. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Dad's name to the Carmelite Monastery of Salt Lake City, or the charitable organization of your choice.
