Gloria Ann Hanley

A rare bird passed away on September 1, 2018. Gloria Ann Smith Hanley. Born February 19, 1931 to Theodore L. Smith and Eva Tolley Smith in Nephi, Utah. Three days later she was ensconced on the corner of Woodside and King Road in the depression era mining camp of Park City, Utah; where she relished life and thrived in the surrounding canyons. A natural born athlete she excelled in all sports if it included a ball, especially golf. You never borrowed or touched her clubs. Graduated from Park City High school and a member of Old Town St. Mary's Catholic Church. Married 1950 and divorced 1968. She retained the Hanley name so she would always have a connection to her two sons; John Michael Hanley and Timothy Joseph Hanley. Gloria worked long hours in low paying jobs in the early days of the edgling ski resort industry to provide for her sons and keep them in skiing programs for which they are eternally grateful. Gloria loved reading biographies speci cally sports biographies. She was a keen competitor in scrabble, card games and crosswords. A pro cient knitter she foisted some unique creations on unsuspecting recipients. The eldest of ve siblings she saw the passing of her sister Marian Murnin, brothers Ted, John and Ed Smith. Gloria was laid to rest in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Both of her sons would like to acknowledge Sean Murnin and Gloria Nicholas for their kindness in her declining years.
