Conservation Burial

According to the Green Burial Council, there are three types of natural cemeteries: Hybrid Cemeteries, Natural Burial Grounds and Conservation Burial Grounds. Our life-long dream is to support the development of conservation burial sites, where loved ones can return to the earth, nourishing it while also contributing to the preservation and protection of natural land.

Envision a nature preserve where the burial sites are not confined by grids. Instead, the final resting place is chosen based on meaningful elements like a tree, a lake, or even the gentle passage of a butterfly. Families have the option to dig the grave themselves, ensuring that the burial is a deeply personal and intimate experience. Loved ones are transported on a hand truck, with family walking together to the chosen resting spot. The body is laid gently in the earth, either in a natural shroud or a simple basket. Instead of flowers, guests bring native plants to revegetate the disturbed ground, helping restore the land. As the sun sets, the burial is completed, followed by an outdoor celebration of food and music.

In partnership with Summit Land Conservancy, efforts are underway to make this vision a reality. Stay tuned for updates.
