Deng was of South Sudanese heritage and a bright, talented, and compassionate young man whose presence touched everyone who knew him. He went on to attend the University of North Dakota, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Communication in May 2025. Deng had recently signed to play basketball while pursuing his master’s degree at the University of Nebraska Omaha.
Basketball was Deng’s passion and the place where he felt most at home. He loved the game tremendously, and through it he not only sought a future in higher education but also found a space to release his thoughts, work through challenges, and center himself. Reaching the Division I level was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, one he worked tirelessly to achieve. His dedication to the game turned him into a role model, not only to his younger brother, but also to boys in the South Sudanese community and to many others who admired him. Through basketball, Deng carried a vision of unity, hope, and perseverance, becoming a symbol of strength for his community and country.
Deng was a young man who dreamed boldly and chased those dreams with everything he had. His determination was matched only by the way he lifted others along the way, never hesitating to encourage or support those around him. He carried himself with humility and a quiet strength, radiating joy wherever he went. To be in his presence was to feel kindness, because Deng didn’t just live for himself he lived to love, to uplift, and to make the world lighter for everyone he encountered.
Deng was the beloved son of Alei and Abele and is survived by his siblings Angelina, Achol, Christina, Ngor, Achan and Nyanbol. He was the heart of his family, a young man who loved everyone deeply, enjoyed being a friend to all, and genuinely cared about others.
A devoted follower of Christ, Deng lived his life in faith and sought to share God’s love in everything he did. His generosity, warmth, and unwavering spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him. To know Deng, is to truly love him for who he is and for the impact he brings to the world.
