Adrian Edward Verschoor
March 23, 1953 - March 6, 2010
Adrian Edward “Ed” Verschoor
On Saturday, March 6th, 2010, Ed Verschoor, 56, died with dignity and in peace from Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS). Ed was born on March 23rd, 1953 in Jakarta, Indonesia to John and Lily Verschoor. They moved to the Netherlands in 1954 then to Salt Lake City in 1959.
Ed graduated from East High in 1971. He received a BA in Mathematics and a Master's in Business Administration from the University of Utah. Ed worked in Information Technology for over 30 years with Utah Power, Boeing and Fidelity Investments.
Ed’s passion was long-distance running. He competed in dozens of races while living in Utah, Washington and Massachusetts. He was an avid baseball and soccer fan. Ed met Kathryn Dakai at the University of Utah. They were married in Salt Lake City in June of 1983. After their daughter Lauren was born, they moved to Washington and then on to Massachusetts. While later divorced, Ed and Kathryn remained close friends. After the onset of ALS, she helped Ed to remain independent as long as possible. Ed relocated to Salt Lake City, where he lived at his parents’ loving and caring home until his very last day.
Ed is survived by his daughter Lauren Dakai (MA); parents John L. and Lily “Tjoa Liang Nio” Verschoor; three brothers Rudy (ID), Peter (UT), and Ron (CA); two nephews Ben and Mike (ID); and many relatives living in the Netherlands and Indonesia.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the University of Utah Department of Neurology. Particular thanks go to Ed’s doctors, Norman L. Foster and Mark B. Bromberg and the ALS Support Group for their care and kindness.
At his request Ed will be cremated. A private memorial will be held for immediate family. In memory of Ed, a donation can be made to ALS research.

Please accept my condolences for your family's loss. Ed was such a wonderful private individual. He hired me at Utah Power and I respected and admired him very much. I will always remember his dry wit. I learned a lot from him.
