Albert Earl Eggert

December 8, 1936 - April 28, 2025

Albert “Al” Eggert passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 28th, 2025. Al gracefully navigated vascular dementia in his last years, maintaining his welcoming demeanor, charming smile, and great sense of humor.

Al was born to Agnes Von Wald and Albert De Ponti, on December 8th, 1936 on the east side of St. Paul, Minnesota. Later Al was lovingly adopted by Warren Eggert. As the oldest of five siblings, his ability to lead was recognized early.

Al attended St. Thomas Academy in his youth, and later went on to graduate from the University of St. Thomas. He began his career at 3M in the mail room and in his 39 years lived multiple places and diligently worked his way up to Healthcare Vice-President. He eventually made his way back to St. Paul, and retired.

Upon retirement, Al and his faithful wife of 58 years, increased their travel and time visiting their children and grandchildren. They later divided their time between their home in the gulf coast of Florida and Minnesota, but they remained ardent and eager travelers. Two years ago they moved to Salt Lake City to be closer to family, which was a true gift for his son Chris and his daughter, Charlotte and their families, to help care for him in his final years. The irony of the dementia was Al was a creator and collector of memories and friends. People were drawn to him professionally and personally. As a result, Al sat on numerous boards and committees to improve the lives of others. Among them, many years on the board of Healtheast as well as President of Mission Valley Country Club. He also was very proud and integral in the building and fundraising of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Sandy, Utah.

Al was a devoted Catholic and man of God. He taught his children the importance of grace, caring, and compassion for those less fortunate and it was manifested in his volunteer work in multiple areas.

His love of life is no doubt the reason he continued to stay with us for so long after his dementia diagnosis and his declining health. He loved fishing and boating, taking many trips to northern Minnesota with friends and family. He had a passion for the outdoors and the Minnesota State Fair. He had an affinity for Hawaii and a good read on the beach or shark tooth hunting with his grandchildren. He enjoyed golfing with his many friends and hunting for many lost balls. His greatest passion was his family. His love for his wife and four children (their spouses) and his devoted grandchildren were his everything.

He is preceded in death by his parents Agnes and Warren Eggert, his in-laws Paul and Mildred Carr, his sister, Diana Eggert, and his niece Lisa (Eggert) Susag. He is survived by his wife, Joan Carr Eggert, Chris Eggert (Rhea Gray), Carol (Carl) Samberg, Celeste Eggert (Jerry Moore), Charlotte (Jacob) Shragge, his grandchildren, Allie, Christian, Michael, Maddie, Charlie and Emerson. He is also survived by his brothers James Eggert (Pam) , Michael Eggert (Sue), Thomas (Sandy), and his many nieces and nephews.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the staff at The Ridge Cottonwood. They showed him enormous love and respect in their care of him. Thank you all!

A celebration of life will be held in his honor on what would have been Al and Joan’s 59th wedding anniversary, September 10, 2025 from 6-8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor,3651 S 900 E,  Salt Lake City.
