“One more boy won’t make a difference.” Boy, were they wrong.
Al was the youngest of six brothers, adored by all for his mischievous spirit, generous heart, and joyful outlook on life. His greatest gift was finding the fun in every moment. He had a quick comedic wit, always accompanied by a warm chuckle and a smile that could melt a glacier. He was as handsome as he was kind, and he treated everyone he met like family.
An incredible artisan, craftsman, and woodworker, Alex specialized in creating custom furniture that celebrated the natural beauty of wood. He had an extraordinary talent for bringing out the intricate grain and unique character of every piece. Oak was his favorite medium- a fitting choice, as his last name, Carvalho, is Portuguese for “oak tree.” Known for its strength, longevity, and striking, undulating grain, the oak reflected Alex himself. He embodied its resilience, enduring life’s hardships while courageously battling addiction and, ultimately, lung cancer.
Alex was born on his brother Phil’s 4th birthday, May 14, 1968. He passed away early morning, July 15, 2026, at the age of 58. He is now reunited with his beloved brother Phil and his mother, Shirley Jean.
Alex is survived by his faithful husky, Abby; his daughter, Erica; his father, Gerard; and his brothers Jerry, Clark, Jeff, and Chris.
A graveside service will be held at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery late August or September. Details will be shared with family and friends as they become available.
Like the acorns of the mighty oak, his laughter, passion, and joy will be cherished long after he has gone.

When I think of you, I hear your laugh at the Sunday dinner table. I remember the Provo River float when the shear strength of your hand kept our raft from capsizing when it became stuck on the bridge support. The water’s force tried to bend us in half but you saved the day. Later, I bought the giant stuffed trout to prank gramma and we laughed til our sides split. And the pride you took in your craftsmanship was truly special. Your heart was bigger than the great outdoors and I will miss you brother. Love, Sherry

I’m terribly sorry for your loss… I miss Alex (My Boyfriend) a little joke between us.. I bought his truck after a few years of knowing him.. I pestered him weekly for it!! :) He called me Girlfriend. He was such a great friend and person. I’m missing him so very much w spent a lot of time together just laughing and talking about his wood projects.. past and future pieces what an incredible artist!! He could make the wood come to life and he was so shy when I praised his work!! Gosh I miss him!! So many good stories.. I pray that your family finds peace and love in this time of grief!!
