Alexander Michael Cooper

March 3, 1989 - July 16, 2020

Alexander Michael Cooper, 31, passed away on July 16, 2020, in a car accident in Redding, California. Alex was born on March 3, 1989, in Salt Lake City, Utah to parents Cory Cooper and Stacey Leishman.

Alex graduated from Copper Hills High School in 2007. He was a BYU fan in a family of U of U fans, a Minnesota Vikings fan, and a fan of LeBron James no matter where he played. He enjoyed rap music, longboarding, cooking, golfing, bowling, camping, hiking, fishing and spending time in the great outdoors. Alex loved spending time with his brothers and with family. His beloved support dog, Doja, was his constant companion.

It was always a joy to spend time with Alex. With a humble and kind soul, he possessed a quiet magnetism that drew others to him. His cool and unpretentious personality made everyone feel like they were important to him.  He had a great sense of humor, so it was always entertaining and amusing to hang out with him. His infectious laugh will be greatly missed.

Alex generously gave his time and resources as a leader of the No Hunger Movement, an organization created to feed the homeless in the Salt Lake City area. For 112 weeks, their Taco Tuesday event delivered countless meals to the homeless until Alex moved to California three years ago.

California is where Alex cultivated his skills in the field of horticulture and as an expert on soil composition. Alex was a hard worker and had found his niche there.  This is how he met his best friend, Ush, who affectionately nicknamed Alex “Cooter the Logistics General.” They were always together and worked with their crew every day for the last 18 months.

Alex is survived by mother Stacey Leishman; father Cory (Mindy) Cooper; step-father Mark Lopez; brothers Zan Lopez, Brody Lopez, Drake Lopez, and Cade Cooper; grandfather Michael Cooper; grandmother Cherie Leishman; step-grandfather Gordon Holt; step-grandparents Russ and Pat Thompson; step-grandfather Ricardo Lopez; step-grandmother Judy Powell; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who adored him. Alex was preceded in death by his grandmother, Nancy Holt, and his cousin, Colby Cooper.

Those who loved Alex are invited to visit with his family on Thursday, July 30, 2020, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. To ensure compliance with current social distancing guidelines, we kindly ask that you call the funeral parlor at (801) 474-9119 between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday thru Saturday to make a reservation for the thirty minute increment you wish to attend and please wear a face covering. In Loving Memory

"Coop" as we'd call him. I remember the first time I met you, Joe Lauchnor took me to your house and you pulled up on this little motorcycle thing. Our friendship really took off when we both worked at Best Buy and we would always have fun at your place, known as "The APT"... when I left my mission we didn't lose contact, always talking until I came back and you picked me up at the airport. You introduced me to a game called League of Legends.. which became one of our favorite past times together, I would even go to your grandmas house and we'd stay up all night playing in your room. You named your cat "Mo" after me because you got it while I was on the mission.. Since you moved to Cali, you'd always hit me up when you were passing through Utah. God I fucking miss you bro.. I hate that you're gone .. we were supposed to live forever, the technology is almost ready.. I love you bro I'll always keep you in my heart.
