Alfred William Knudson

February 1, 1923 - November 18, 2013

2/1/1923-11/18/2013

Our beloved father, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully November 18, 2013 after a great run of 90 years.

After losing both parents by the age of 20, Al helped raise his three younger sisters installing a lifetime commitment of taking care of people. He served three years in the Navy, then earned a degree in Business from the University of Utah where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and developed lifetime friendships. It was there he met the love of his life, Margaret McPhie who became his wife of 53 years.

Although he was the manager of Deseret Paint Company and an executive of Dynaflex, his greatest accomplishment was his three children, Scott, Laurie and Mark. He was always a great father and never missed a game, performance or appointment involving his kids. When the four grandchildren were born, he continued the tradition of always being there for them.

Al is survived by son Scott (Karol); daughter Laurie Cannon (Woody); daughter-in-law Vicki; grandchildren Erin, Spencer and Taylor Cannon, Alex Knudson and sister Darlene. Preceded in death by wife Margaret and son Mark.

The family would like to thank the staff at Holladay Healthcare for their kindness and support during his last year.

A celebration of his life will be held Friday, November 22nd from 6-8 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 So. 900 E. with a tribute at 7:00 pm. Complimentary valet parking will be provided on the north side of the building.

We will miss this great man!

I really enjoyed the last few months visiting with your dad. I got to share most of his meals with him as he shared the same table with my dad, Duane. I would bring your dad a caramel shake and he would get so excited. You would have thought those simple shakes were worth a million bucks as much gratitude he showed me. I also remember when I was little your dad and mine coaching all my brothers baseball. Your dad was just super to me and I was grateful that the circle of life had him cross my path these last few months. My prayers are with you in this loss. Thanks for sharing your dad with me these last few months- it was just great. Sincerely Laura Sundloff Greene

What a kind, gentle man your father was. I have such wonderful memories of him during our high school years and have felt honored to know your entire family. What a wonderful close-knit family he and Marg raised. Our prayers are with you now.

Scott and Family: Your dad was a winner in every way. I have lost track of your dad over the last three or four years. I always loved talking to him and always considered him a "great man" as you indicated in his obituary. I was saddened to read about Mark. I remember years ago treating you and Mark in my office with braces. Those are great memories for me. You were two of my very favorite patients. Janet and I both express our love to you and your family. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I hope that our paths will cross in the future. Garr and Janet Vincent
