Alicia Antoinette Fernandez Ruiz

April 3, 1995 - July 18, 2021

Alicia Antoinette Fernandez Ruiz, beloved daughter, sister, niece, granddaughter, and friend to many, unexpectedly passed away on July 18th, 2021, at age 26.

Alicia was born April 3, 1995, to Raul Ruiz Jr. and Marienelle Antoinette Fernandez, in Salt Lake City, UT. Alicia graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. She was planning to go to the University of Denver to complete her master’s degree. Alicia loved life and was the life of the party wherever she went. She had the most amazing voice and loved to do Karaoke whenever she had the chance. She was a big fan of the University of Utah Football team, and when any opportunity arose, she loved to be outdoors camping. She loved to travel and was planning on moving to Portland, OR. In her short life, she managed to touch everyone’s hearts and enjoyed life to the fullest. She had such a bubbly personality; all her co-workers and friends called her sunshine.

She is survived by her parents, Raul Ruiz Jr. (Lindsay Karr), Marienelle Antoinette Fernandez. Her sisters Jordan, Bella, Gia and her brother Matt.  Her auntie Chantel Ruiz (Bob Martinez), Her grandparents Raul Ruiz Sr.; Priscilla Rodriguez (Javier Rangel), Marina and Macario Fernandez and various aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Rosary will be held Friday, July 23rd at 3:00 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, 715 W 300 N, Salt Lake City, UT., followed by a Vigil Mass and a Memorial. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on 11:00 am Saturday, July 24th also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, followed by a luncheon at 2:00 pm in the social hall. Face masks are Required.

A special thank you to the Staff of St. Marks Hospital ICU, for the hard work and care that was given to Alicia and the attention paid to the family, helping us with our loss.

I do want to say to the family that I am sorry for your loss Alicia was great at her job as a case manager at the voa youth resource center and was able to help me get housing and helped me stay housed. Alicia thank you for everything you did to help me. You were my favorite staff member and you understood what I was going through I was able to talk to you about anything that was on my mind and was able to just sit in your office for hours on end if I needed to cry or just let it out. May you be with us all and Rest In Peace Alicia.

Alicia, It has been one year since you have been gone today. I think about you often. I miss our late nights together, hot yoga sessions, and coffee dates. You were truly my bestfriend. I trusted you with everything I am. Your laugh was contagious, and you had the most beautiful smile. I love you B. Rest easy.
