Allison Gray Rainer
September 21, 1943 - May 10, 2023
Allison Gray Rainer, 79, of Salt Lake City, passed away on May 10, 2023, following a yearlong battle with a rare autoimmune blood condition. She was surrounded by her loving daughter and two of her adoring sisters as she took her last earthly breaths.
Allison was born on September 21, 1943, to Mildred and William Gray in Pittsburgh, PA. After graduating from Bethel High School in 1961, she went on to study microbiology at Morris Harvey College in Charleston, West Virginia. She was awarded her Bachelor of Science in 1965. The following year, she completed her medical technology training at Sewickley Valley Hospital. In 1968, she accepted a job as a medical technologist at Methodist Hospital in one of the nation’s premier medical centers in Houston, TX. She dutifully worked for Methodist Hospital for over 25 years. Then she took on a new career as a budding pathologist assistant for Baylor College of Medicine until her retirement in 2010. She was a subtle trailblazer who navigated maintaining a career and raising a daughter often without clear models or maps for working mothers.
Her greatest strengths were her kindness and gentleness, she had a knack for finding the positive in every situation. Her relationship with God was steadfast. In fact, some of her fondest memories and cherished friends emerged from her church participation and service. She found joy in singing with her church choir and later the glee club at Summit Vista. She relished discovering her Scottish heritage and connecting with people who shared this passion. However, it was spending time with her precocious grandson she most cherished and delighted in.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Rainer, son-in-law Ryan Foust, grandson, Sage Foust, as well as her five siblings and many adored nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at Summit Vista in Taylorsville, Utah on Monday, June 5th and will continue in Houston Texas at Lomonte’s Restaurant on June 25th.
In Loving Memory
Prayers for you and yours.

I met Allison when I moved to Summit Vista. As a new resident, it seemed that every activity I went to Allison was there. She was such a positive presence in our community. She will be greatly missed.
