Alma Ida Andersen

July 21, 1922 - January 26, 2017

Our beautiful, sweet, fun-loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,
aunt, cousin and friend, Alma Ida Youngberg Andersen passed away January 26, 2017, from natural causes.  Alma was the fifth of seven children born to Gustave Alfred Youngberg and Margaret Elizabeth Love Youngberg.  Alma grew up in the Rose Park area and attended St. Mary of the Wasatch.  She loved dancing and roller skating and met her husband-to-be at Saltair.  They married November 27, 1939.  Three sons and one daughter were born to Martin and Alma, Larry, Lynn, Catherine, and Stephen (Michelle).  Alma loved her family and enjoyed taking very good care of them.  She was a wonderful cook and always provided nutritious meals as well as packing lunches daily for Martin and the boys for work.  She was also a talented seamstress, artist and enjoyed doing puzzles.  She made gorgeous dolls with fancy dresses for her granddaughters and also sewed clothing for her grandchildren.  She was a meticulous housekeeper and female "Jack of all trades."  She handled a number of the home repairs.  Besides all her duties at home, she helped where she could in Martin's and her sons' painting and building businesses. When she decided to take a job outside the home, she worked for awhile as a server at Makoffs Tea Room and greatly enjoyed the friends she met there.  Alma especially enjoyed organizing family activities at Lagoon, Saltair, the canyons, Lake Powell and vacations to California, as well as traveling around the United States with Martin.  She loved the many dogs she had over the years especially the little fat Dachshunds. Alma was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and taught Primary and enjoyed her association with the members as a Visiting Teacher.  Special thanks to Jackie, Julio, and Eliana who took such great care of her for the last few years, and also to Beehive Home Care, West Jordan, for their loving care of Alma during her last days.  Alma was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, son Larry, and granddaughter Lori.  She is survived by daughter Catherine (Cathy) and sons Lynn, and Stephen (Michelle), 9 grandchildren,11 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren.  A Celebration of Life will be held at Starks Funeral Parlor on Thursday, February 2, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. Please use complimentary valet parking provided on the North side of the building. Please come and share the memories you have of our beloved Alma. A graveside ceremony will be held at Valley View Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Humane Society of Utah or to a charity of your choice.
