Alveeda Rae Lauscher

October 26, 1949 - August 30, 2024

Alveeda Rae Lauscher, 74, of Salt Lake City, died peacefully at home on August 30, 2024. She was born in Munising Michigan to the late Charles and Lorene Lauscher, on October 26, 1949.

Alveeda was named after her mother’s little sister who died in their house fire when she was 3 years old. The name Alveeda is from German heritage.

Alveeda grew up in Green Bay Wisconsin. After graduating from West High School in 1968, she attended and graduated from the University of Green Bay. Alveeda came to her beloved Utah mountains in the late 70’s with a newly minted Master’s of Library Science from The University of Oregon in Eugene. She began her professional career as the Children’s Librarian at the Salt Lake City Public Library and went on to be a valued manager and administrator for over 30 years. The Sweet Branch in the Avenues and the Foothill Branches of the City Library are better community resources thanks to Alveeda’s dedication to public service and intellectual freedom.

One of her favorite things to do was to travel with her best friend Sally. She was an avid Packer fan, loved to ski, camp, garden and loved animals. Penguins were her favorite. She was independent, courageous and adventuresome. She loved travel, whether camping in the mountains, or adventuring abroad. She delighted in the wonder of seeing new places but also experiencing different cultures and peoples. Two of her favorite trips were an African Safari and building houses in Tibet. When she couldn’t physically continue traveling, she was an avid armchair traveler through her favorite shows, books or discussions about travel and the natural world.

She is survived by her sister Sherrie (Bruce) Morrissey of Green Bay with nephew Matthew (Missy) Morrissey of Green Bay and niece Hallie (Adam) Rinderle of Ladera Ranch California: half sister Gloria Gaie (Ed Smith) of Green Bay with nephew David (Michelle) Gaie, Tracey (Kelly) Giannunzio, Tiffany (Joe) Baudhuin, all of Green Bay; one Aunt Joyce Selig of Appleton Wisconsin: close friend Sally Patrick (Chris LaTour) and Sarah of Salt Lake City Utah: many great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was also proceeded in death by her parents Charles Carl and Lorene Alice Lauscher.

Alveeda’s ashes were spread in the mountains of Alta, her favorite place to ski and find peace. A gathering memorial may be announced at a later date. Many thanks to Starks Funeral Home in Salt Lake City Utah for her cremation.

Remember Alveeda when you ski down a slope, admire a rainbow, a mountain or a child reading a beloved book. In her memory consider donations to Room To Read (roomtoread.org), an international agency supporting children’s literacy in disadvantaged communities.

In Loving Memory

My deepest condolences for your loss. Al was a great mentor for me and I will cherish her memory. I can still hear her raspy laugh. She was a strong woman, tough but fair. I learned a lot and looked up to her. She will be missed

I send my condolences to Alveeda's family and friends.  She often spoke loviingly of her sister, brother-in-law, and especially her niece and nephew. Al was one of a kind,so adventurous, loving and generous.  She was a treasured friend who was always up to something interesting. She loved to travel and even visited me in California and Canada.  She enjoyed puttering in her pretty garden and liked nothing better than to get together with friends in a beautiful place.  I miss you Al.
