Anna Zoe Simmons
June 21, 1930 - October 18, 2018
“I'll Be Seeing You…”
Our dear wife and mother, Anna Zoe Stevens Simmons, gently passed away on October 18, 2018, two days after her 70th wedding anniversary. The last of seven children, Anna was born in 1930 to Mary and Barney Stevens. She graduated from East High School and married Paul Simmons who had served in the U.S. Army’s 13th Airborne Division at Le Havre, France during World War II.
Anna was a dedicated mother to three children while becoming an exceptional typist, stenographer and secretary. Anna spent many happy years working in the University of Utah’s Department of Chemical Engineering. Before and after her retirement, Anna and Paul’s passion for the Utes took them to countless home and away games, including bowl events and NCAA championship tournaments. Anna was widely known for sporting red, her favorite color, to proudly support her Utes!
Anna was a devoted musician who played the piano and sang in the Schubert Singers Ladies Chorus. She loved to smile and offered kind words to everyone. Anna also loved to laugh and willingly shared her spunky sense of humor and positive, sunny attitude with anyone on her path. She was incredibly intelligent, sensitive and generous. Throughout Anna’s life, she unconditionally loved family and friends with all of her heart. Most recently, she made many new friends at the University of Utah Hospital and Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. Anna and her family are forever grateful to each of her ‘sweethearts’ for their extraordinary care and for allowing her to share so much love and gratitude with them.
Anna is survived by her husband of seventy years, Paul Simmons, her children Steven, Annette Bowthorpe (Todd) and Marc, six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Anna's family quietly laid her to rest at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Please join her family and friends for her celebration on Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Starks Funeral Palor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking on the north side of the building.
