Heaven gained an angel on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. Annabelle Leah Smith, just shy of her 84th birthday, passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was a devoted wife to her husband, William (Bill) James Smith, and loving mother to her three children.
Daughter of Afton and Earl Brown, Ann was born on July 15, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was raised in the Cotton Bottoms near Sandy, Utah, where she attended Jordan High School. Ann was known for her hard work ethic and love for people. She greeted everyone with “Hello young lady/man,” whether they were young or old. Rather than wallowing in despair, she chose to roll up her sleeves and get to work when she faced trials and adversity. Her husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor early in their marriage, and Ann stood by him and cared for him for over fifty years.
Ann was no stranger to hard work. In her youth, she helped her family earn a living in the chicken industry by building and cleaning chicken coops, gathering and washing eggs, and prepping the eggs for market. Later she worked as a clothing store clerk, a soda jerk, a daycare provider, a manger of an all-purpose store, and finally as an estimator/contractor for a large equipment company that provided kitchen equipment for schools, event centers, and restaurants. This job allowed her to support her family while her husband was unable to work because of his health problems.
She is survived by her three children, James (Merri), Kendall (Kym), and Anna Smith (David); her eleven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, and two brothers, David and Vern Brown.
A viewing will be on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Danish Creek Ward build ing on 2895 East Creek Road in Cottonwood Heights. Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Danish Creek Ward building, with a viewing one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest next to husband following the service at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Avenue & “T” Street.
Ann’s family would like to thank Carrington Court Memory Care for the love and care bestowed on Ann the last twenty months of her life.
