Art Hoffman
April 1, 1937 - February 5, 2014
On Wednesday February 5th Dad left this world to join Mom in paradise.
Art was born on April 1, 1937. It is fitting that he was born on April Fools Day because he had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed telling his grandchildren stories of vast adventures and tall tales which had to be confirmed or denied by grandma (most were never confirmed).
Art had many interests in life. He found great joy in coaching Little League football and basketball. He received the Pro Deo Juvante for God and Youth Papal Award for his service in the Catholic Youth Organization. He also was a 4th Degree Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus Council 5502 where he helped direct the completion of the McNamara Center. Art was a Sergeant in the Marine Corps in the late 1950’s. When he wasn’t working or volunteering he went on many great trips and cruises. One of his favorites was a cruise he took to Alaska with his wife and daughter Kim. Anyone who knew Art knew of his passion for the Dallas Cowboys. He took a road trip to Dallas to see the new stadium with his son Scott where he felt he had to act as navigator so they didn’t get lost. This past September he was finally able to see his team play when his son Mike treated him to a game in San Diego (unfortunately Dallas lost but he still had a great time).
He married Jeanell Goeckner at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Twin Falls, Idaho. Together they had six children: Randy (Joni), Kim, Lonny, Scott (Lucinda), Greg, Mike (Amanda). They had 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren with one more to arrive soon.
He was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 53 years, his parents Lewis and Pearl, his brother Earl, sister Deloris, grandson Weston and Sons-in-Law Bob Reilly and Kent Carter.
He favored his family gatherings most but he recalled the two best decisions he ever made in life were to ask Jeanell to marry him and converting to Catholicism.
Celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, February 11 from 6:00-8:00pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, where complimentary valet parking will be provided on the north side of the building. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Wednesday, February 12 at Saint Olaf Catholic Church, 276 East 1700 South, Bountiful.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Covenant House located at 346 West 17th South, New York City, New York 10011.
