Barbara Jean Cook

February 21, 1933 - April 29, 2026

Barbara passed away in comfort in the early morning of Wednesday, April 29, after a short illness. She was born to Mildred and Mike Healey in Hollywood, California, and later moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. Barb graduated from West High School in 1951 and went to work for Mtn. Bell in the Inventory Accounting Department. She was highly organized and disciplined. She soon became a supervisor, a position she held until retirement. Barbara married Mervan Brown and later divorced.

She met her soulmate, Edmund D. Cook, and they were married in November of 1971. Ed and Barb enjoyed the outdoors and were members of the Wasatch Mountain Club for many years. Barbara was a strong animal rights advocate and supported the Humane Society and Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, where she volunteered regularly. Barb had her little dogs with her at all times.

Upon retirement, Ed and Barb sold their home in Salt Lake City and began an adventure across North America, chasing 70 degrees in their motorhome. They continued their journey until 2006, when medical issues brought them back to Murray, Utah.

Barbara loved to crochet, winning awards at state fairs and making wonderful Christmas gifts for grandchildren. You could always count on a card from Barb for birthdays or other occasions throughout the year—she was very thoughtful and kind.

Special thanks to Troy, Nery, and Monica, as well as other staff at Beehive Homes. You all made her quality of life so much better.

As per Barbara’s request, there will be no funeral service.
