Barbara Jean Foulger Maloney New

April 12, 1932 - July 19, 2014

BARBARA J.NEW, Age: 82, Passed Away ever so gracefully and Peacefully in the company of her loved ones at St. Mark's hospital on July 19th at 6:05PM. Her passing was anticipated and was indicative of the incredible life she led. She was placed in an eternal state of rest after a long life full of selfless giving and without any regrets. She died surrounded by those closest to her just as she would have wished for. Her decline was initiated by an extensive stroke that she suffered 3 days prior to her passing.
She was born in Alameda, CA on April 12, 1932 to Bertrand Loyal Foulger and Irma Louise Tyler Foulger. She graduated from University of Utah with a teaching certificate and taught health, Physical education, and dance in the Granite School District for over 25 years before retiring in 1993. She married Frank Maloney and had four sons Kevin, Sean, Michael, and Daniel. After her husband's death she married John New and had 1 more son John New III. She had strong Christian values and was baptized both in the LDS church and later on was a follower of the Catholic faith.
She was able to raise 5 boys on a schoolteacher's salary and always sacrificed her own personal needs to ensure her boys could participate in activities and get their educations. She was very well traveled and visited China, Ireland, New Zealand, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Mexico and the Hawaiian islands. Her hobbies included knitting, cross-stitching, golf, bowling, playing Bridge, and she loved to dance. She touched the lives of so many people and always befriended her kids’ friends. She annually took her family and friends to Hebgen Lake, Montana each year. She was a master at coordinating all the meals and transportation, and would allow her boys to take up to three friends each to the cherished family cabin in Montana. She was also very fortunate to have a cabin in Woodland, Utah. She also shared this with all her family and many friends. She made it possible for her children and grandchildren to continue to enjoy this sanctuary for the foreseeable future. She was the most giving person, constantly sacrificing her own time and resources for the benefit of others. We are all so proud to call her our "Mom" and nobody did a better job of being a "lighthouse in rough waters" than she did. Our family is extremely grateful to have her as our mother and the example she set for us will carry on through the generations to come.
She is survived by her sons Kevin; Sean; Michael (Heather); and John (Becky); as well as her older Brother Donald Foulger. She was preceded in death by her first husband Frank Maloney, and her second husband John New II, as well as her second youngest son Daniel Patrick Maloney, all of whom she is with today. She has 6 Grandchildren Katie and Kristin Maloney (Sean), Connor and Riley Maloney (Mike), and Nicholas and Johnny New IV.
A Celebration of Life and Wake will be held Saturday, August 2nd at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Complimentary valet parking will be available on the north side of the building. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the St. Martha's Baby Project, which she was part of for many years. Contact the Catholic Community Services of Utah.

Such a huge part of my life. I was blessed to be one of her "other" children. She will always be in my heart. I smile thinking of the party in heaven with the Honeycut Circle family now. Love to all of you.

To all Barbara's sons: My memories of your mom go way back to a river trip we did 35 years ago. I enjoyed her energy and the love she showed for life and family. From music parties to outings at the cabins she could pull the rest of us along with her enthusiasm. She was the perfect "fit" to be the mother of 5 boys. When I was with her I was one of you.

Dear Kevin, Sean, and Michael I was sorry to hear your mom passed away, but I know she is in heaven now. She was like a second mother to me too. We all had so many fun times together and we will never forget them. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. With all of my love, Skooter P.S. I am having my son Austin write this and I am sorry I was not able to be at the funeral.
