Barbara Louise Last Clements

Barbara Louise Last Clements was born on March 6, 1952, to Virginia M. Last and Arthur W. Last. She passed away peacefully on June 1, 2024, in her hometown of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Throughout her life, Barbara had a passion for various hobbies including playing the violin, tending to her beloved roses, expressing herself through ceramics and painting, and collecting and making porcelain dolls. She also found joy in volunteering at the Gift Shop and Information Desk at St. Mark’s Hospital, where her caring nature shone brightly towards those in need.

In mid-life, Barbara achieved recognition for her artistic talents. Her painting “Awareness” garnered first-place awards both in Springville, Utah, and in a national art show for artists with epilepsy in New York City, New York. She took great pride in her artistic accomplishments. She shared her knowledge by volunteering and teaching art classes to children.

One of Barbara’s proudest achievements extended beyond her artistic endeavors. In 2007, she received the Frist Humanitarian Award at St. Mark’s Hospital, a testament to how dedicated she was in helping others.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Sonny Last, and her sister Vickie Hyatt. She is survived by her two daughters, Jessica Giberson (Matthew) and Melissa Clements (Shane); her two grandsons, Lincoln and Henry Giberson; and her loving sisters Georgie Nelson, Jeanne Pence, Marilyn Anderson, and her “big little brother” Alan Last (Cass) – with all of whom she shared many cherished memories.

Barbara was known for her strength, vibrant personality, and dedication to faith. She was a devoted Catholic who attended daily mass at the Carmelite Monastery, and also attended St. Vincent de Paul and St. Ann churches. She found solace and strength in her spiritual beliefs. Her dedication to service will be remembered by all those whose lives she touched.

Barbara will be deeply missed, but her legacy as a mother, grandmother, sister, talented artist, and compassionate community member will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her dearly. Her family finds great comfort in the words Barbara once wrote:

“One day I will pass through the last door. But I know that when I return to serenity and close my final door, only windows will surround me. There will be no barrier between me and the light. Peace and all my love.”

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 12th, from 6-8pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Mass will be celebrated at 12:00pm on Thursday, June 13th, at the Carmelite Monastery, 5714 Holladay Blvd, Salt Lake City.
