Bernard Dallas Fields

January 26, 1942 - November 29, 2011

Bernard Dallas Fields

Bernard Dallas Fields departed this life and went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 29th, 2011 at the Canyon Rim Care Center.  Bernard was born January 26th, 1942 the son of Ozsie and Ruth Fields as the 3rd oldest of 6 children: Aaron, Theodore, Harold, Sarah and Yvonne.

He dedicated his life to the Lord and was baptized at the New Rising Sun Church where he attended throughout his childhood.   He was educated in the Philadelphia public schools and joined the Army and served his country until he was discharged with honors.

He married his beloved wife Janice and moved from Philadelphia to Oakland California.  While in Oakland he rekindled his love for the outdoors becoming an avid fisherman and farmer.

With the tragic death of Janice in 1985 he moved with their young son Martin to Salt Lake City, Utah where he became very involved in his local community, dedicating countless hours in the local food banks and held weekly meetings with other veterans in the V.A. hospitals A.A. meetings.  Along with his community work he was an active member of the Unity Baptist Church serving on their Faith team and as a member of the Brotherhood until his health failed him.

He will be sorely missed by all his family, friends and fellow church members as well as his surviving children: Martin, Ruth, Stephanie, Tracie, Carrie, James and his grandchildren, in-laws and a host of nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, father, mother, sister and sons.

He is resting peacefully now in the arms of his Savior.

Funeral services will be held at the Unity Baptist Church Monday, December 5, 2011 at noon with a viewing an hour before the service.  Interment will be at Utah Veteran’s Memorial Park.
