Bonnie Ludlow

August 28, 1926 - December 2, 2010

Bonnie Ludlow

Bonnie Ludlow quietly passed away December 2, 2010 at home in Salt Lake City at the age of 84.

She was born in Hinckley, Utah and was the fifth of ten children of Edwin & Chloe Barnhurst. Bonnie worked at Kress, the Capitol Theatre as an usherette, the Rio Grande Depot cleaning box cars, and at Clearfield depot. With some of her earnings she purchased gifts, clothing and necessities for her siblings. Bonnie met the love of her life Roy Ludlow on a blind date and they were married in 1947. During the first years of marriage Bonnie worked at Mountain Bell as an operator. With Bonnie’s assistance, Roy’s business (HydroSwift boats) became successful and she then stayed at home to raise her children. Her family came first and she spent many hours reading bedtime stories, assisting with homework, scouting projects and taking the kids to every activity & sport they desired. One couldn’t have had a more loving, supportive mother. She volunteered at Primary Children’s hospital, taught primary for 15 years, and assisted many homebound neighbors. Bonnie was very generous and she would have given everything away if she were in charge of the finances.

Roy and Bonnie loved to travel and took the entire family to Tahiti twice. Upon retirement Bonnie and Roy spent time in Sun City West, AZ.  In 1995 Bonnie became blind and then in 2003 she fell and broke her neck. She was told she’d be wheelchair bound, but with Roy’s loving care and her hard work she became a miracle story and was able to walk. Last year she became bedbound and although in pain she always maintained a positive attitude. She was an inspiration to all.

She is survived by four children: B. Greg (Beth), Randy (Terri), Cindy Christensen (Deb Sauer), and Julie Jensen; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband only two months prior; they just couldn’t be without each other.

Much thanks to Ellen and Mike Murphy; the staff of Inspiration Hospice; and Resicare for their loving care.

A wake will be held on Wednesday, December 8th from 6 to 8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 9th at 2:00 PM at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City.

“I came to realize that you can either cry or laugh at things that happen and it is a lot more fun to laugh.”
