Boyd Max Hunting (Squeaky)

Here is the story of my dad, Boyd M Hunting. People that he worked with know him by Squeaky.  My dad was born on June 23, 1951 to Max R and Lela Hunting, in Roosevelt, Utah. 

My dad married my mom Ellna Jeanine Shepherd on August 14, 1970. They had Wayne and myself (Mindy) and later divorced.

My dad admired his Grandpa Hacking. Grandpa Hacking gave my dad the love of working with his hands and he grew up to be a carpenter. My dad loved his job, and made many friends. 

This is where he earned the nickname of Squeaky. My dad was passionate with his thoughts and opinions.When he expressed those thoughts his voice would raise, then squeak. You’d a hard time driving around the Salt Lake Valley without him saying which building he had worked on. He was a member of the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters Union for 51 years.

He later found a career working as a building inspector for South Jordan and later Herriman, where he retired in 2019. He made lifelong friends and loved his weekly lunches with a number of those friends.

My dad loved sports, he coached my soccer team when I was young, and loved to attend gymnastic meets and football games at the University of Utah.

My dad loved to spend time outdoors. He loved traveling to the different national parks, his favorite place however was Diamond Mountain. This was a place that was full of stories, sitting around the campfire, listening to the sounds of nature. He loved spending time with his family here. He made a couple of memorable trips with friends Wade, Linda and Kathy. They got him to go on a cruise to Alaska, and a trip to NYC. His last trip was with his grandson over the 4th of July to Mount Rushmore.

My dad will be missed by many family, friends and loved ones that he leaves behind.

Services will be on Friday, September 10, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor located at 3651 South 900 East Millcreek, Utah 84106. Boyd will be laid to rest on Saturday June 24, 2022 on family property on Diamond Mountain in Vernal Utah.
