Brett Daniel Barnes

January 26, 1979 - February 10, 2025

“HEY, you guys” Brett called out for the last time.

Brett Daniel Barnes was born on January 26, 1979, in Salt Lake City to Debora Wynkoop and Wayne Barnes. He passed away at home on February 10, 2025. Brett attended Highland High School, where his enthusiasm for sports developed. He played football and formed lifelong friendships there. He later attended Salt Lake Community College, earning a degree in Criminal Justice.
Brett worked for several years in bars, beginning as security and advancing to manager. During this period, he met the love of his life and future wife, Hilary Yocom. After four years of dating, they married on February 29, 2016. Brett was not only blessed with his loving wife, but two sons, Gage and Chase.

His passion for sports continued into adulthood. Brett enjoyed bowling and playing golf with his sons, his father, and brother. Known for his warm personality, loyalty, and generous heart, Brett was dedicated and hardworking. Together with Hilary, he successfully opened and operated the Sandwedge Cafe, a venture of which he was immensely proud.
Brett was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and those in need. He was recognized for raising funds through events such as the Opie Barnes Golf Tournament for those in need, whether he knew them or not. Last year, he achieved a notable milestone by scoring his third hole-in-one during the tournament.

Brett had a unique ability to make everyone he befriended feel like his best friend. He cherished traveling, spending time with family and friends, and celebrating life. Brett’s legacy of love, dedication, and kindness will be remembered by all who knew him.

Preceding Brett on his next journey were Debra Wynkoop, his grandparents, and close friend Scott Thomas. He is survived by his love and wife Hilary Yocom Barnes, sons Gage and Chase, his dog Opie Barnes, his father Wayne Barnes (Lil Barnes), brother Pat Barnes (Holly Barnes), Patrick “Pops” Balough, Pat Jr. Balough, Meghan Balough, Britta Barron, Makaela Barron (Krista Longhurst). The list of friends is extensive, and the absence of Brett will be felt by all.

The celebration of Brett’s life will be held April 5, 2025, at Sandwedge Café, located at Mt. Dell Golf Course. More information to follow, here and on social media.
