Byron Lee Saylor

January 6, 1935 - June 13, 2023

Byron Lee Saylor of Sandy, Utah died on June 13, 2023, he was surrounded by his family at his passing.

He was born January 6, 1935 in Johnstown, PA, where he lived with his grandparents.  After graduating from high school, he moved to Harrisburg and lived with his mother. He joined the Army in 1955, serving in Europe for 3 years and is a Korean War Veteran.  He attended the University of Pittsburgh in 1959 and graduated with an MBA in 2 ½ years. Byron met his true love in 1962, Betty Freeland while visiting his mother in Newport, PA.  He and Betty married on August 3, 1963.  They have two children, Audrey born in 1964 and Tom born in 1967.  Byron’s job as a marketing analyst took his family to live in 5 states before making Utah their home in 1978.  Once in Utah, Byron learned to ski at 43 years old and particularly enjoyed having his free pass at Alta after turning 80 years old.  He skied black diamond runs until the age of 87. He was an avid hiker, exploring the trails of the Wasatch Mountains. He loved going for a drive up any canyon.  He traveled extensively throughout the US and Europe with his work. He retired from Baker Hughes (Eimco Division) in 1995. 

The family would like to thank the staff at Escalante of Willow Creek and Auburn Crest Home Health & Hospice for taking care of Byron and Betty.  

Preceded in death by his mother (Beryl Faul) and brother (Paul Saylor). He is survived by his wife, Betty Saylor; children-Audrey Saylor Mede (Maurice Jablon Mede) and Tom Saylor (Quinnie Lee Saylor);  3 Grandchildren-Samantha Mede Bigelow (Dr. Beau Bigelow), Parker Jablon Mede, and William Lee Saylor; and Great Granddaughter-Elsie Saylor Bigelow.
