Carol Joan Longson
July 5, 1939 - January 7, 2024
On January 7, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family, Joan, a loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, peacefully passed away. Born to Vance Jacob and Gertrude Cloward on July 5, 1939, in Provo, Utah, Joan's life was a testament to the enduring power of love and family.
Joan went to South High School and had a lifelong friendship with Marilyn Bean Brewster who she loved dearly. On October 26, 1956, she married the love of her life, Jack Clifton Longson, in Salt Lake City. They were married for 51 years. Together, they had seven children in Bountiful, Utah.
She leaves behind her heartbroken children Michael, Stephen, Michelle (Chris), and Bruce (Natalie), and leaves behind eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, along with cherished nieces and special nephew Doug Jensen. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved sister Shirley Jensen, her husband Jack, sons Rodney, John, Scott, and granddaughter Megan.
Joan spent many years as an accountant working for South Davis Sewer District and F.C. Stangl Construction. She enjoyed many trips with her mother, sister, and children. Joan loved reading, shopping, and having her hair done. She enjoyed trips to Wendover and passed her love of playing cards onto her family. Our favorite memories were spent at the table together playing cards and laughing. She was an amazing cook and she loved preparing meals for her loved ones. Her spaghetti recipe has been passed down for generations to enjoy. In her last years she loved holding grandbabies, going to lunch, and being driven around town. She always wanted to know “what are we going to do today?”
Her legacy lives on in the countless memories of love, laughter, and shared moments. Joan was a pillar of strength and a source of love for her family and friends. She always made sure to let us know how much she loved us. We miss her dearly, but understand she just wanted to go home.
A special thank you to her neighbors who would visit, provide assistance, and even take her on drives.
There will be a private family and friend Celebration of Joan’s life.
