Carole E. Montmorency

September 26, 1933 - January 12, 2019

Carole E. Montmorency passed away peacefully on January 12, 2019.

She was born on September 26, 1933, in Ogden Utah, to Margaret (Min) Eccles and William E Eccles. She graduated from Ogden High School and attended Utah State University where she was affiliated with Chi Omega sorority. In her later years she graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelors degree in psychology. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and attended Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She married Fredrick Montmorency in 1954, later divorced. She had three children; Michelle Montmorency, Michael Eccles Montmorency and John Fredrick Montmorency. Survived by daughter Michelle (Patrick Aloia-deceased), son Michael (LeeAnn Druce-Montmorency) five grand-children and a great granddaughter who will arrive in March 2019.  Preceded in death by son John Fredrick Montmorency and grandson Matthew Eccles Wallace.

Mom had a very active life. She loved doing volunteer work. She was a member of the PEO chapter in Salt Lake City, was the President of the Assistance League, and was active with Pioneer Memorial Theater. She also loved the Utah Opera, was involved in the Opera Guild and had season tickets up until the last year of her life. She enjoyed keeping busy and worked at  Hallmark in Foothill Village, Eddie Bauer in Fashion Place and Coldwater Creek in Gateway. She was so disappointed when Coldwater Creek closed their store. She was not ready to retire! In her later years she rescued a retired racing Greyhound named Tani who she loved so much. They were great for each other. Animals were a big part of her life. She always had dogs, cats and a bird. Mom was a wonderful entertainer and cook. She hosted many events from luncheons, cocktail parties, wedding showers and family dinners at her home. She set a beautiful table for every event. Mom also loved working in her yard. She was in The Garden Club and enjoyed learning new tips for her garden. Even when she wasn’t feeling well she’d be outside weeding and planting beautiful flowers. The last year of her life, even with many health issues, she would still be concerned with raking her leaves. She’d have days when it was difficult but it was always completed. Never leave things undone she said. Mom also loved her exercise class at the Millcreek Senior Center. She was there M-W-F and made some wonderful friends.

She had such a strong will to live. Over the last 3 years she struggled with many heath issues but she kept fighting and always seemed to pull through. She so badly wanted to see the birth of her first great-granddaughter in March 2019. She got to see the ultrasound pictures and hear her heartbeat. That kept her going until she just couldn’t go on any longer.

Special thanks to Amada Senior Care and to Community Nursing Services for helping to take care of mom in her final days.
Also thank you to all her friends whose love she cherished. Thank you for being there for mom.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 21, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 2315 East Redondo Avenue, Salt Lake City. A visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the church. Carole will be laid to rest at a later date at Washington Heights Memorial Park in Ogden.

In lieu of flowers please make donations, in her name, to the Humane Society of Utah or Best Friends Animal Society.

I knew Carole because I shopped at Eddie Bauer, Trolley Square if I remember correctly, and Coldwater Creek at Gateway. She knew my name and was always friendly and kind as I was shopping. I’m sad to hear the she passed away. I appreciate the obituary and was delighted to read that she had such a full and interesting life.

Let us also put off every weight and the sin that easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. Our faith is not something to take for granted. The sin that easily entangles us is lack of faith. A hard faith is required if we are to keep on walking by faith.
