Carolyn Marie Davis

September 14, 1968 - August 19, 2021

Carolyn Marie Davis was born in Oakland, California to Willene Witt on September 14th, 1968.  She was named after her Aunt Carolyn who passed away as a baby. They moved to Salt Lake City in 1973 where she attended elementary, middle school, and graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1986 as Senior Class President.

Carolyn attended and graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion.  She spent her life’s work as a Fraud Investigator for the State of Utah, and as an Assistant Clerk for the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.  As a member of Calvary, she sang in the choir, served on the usher board and was a youth usher board counselor.

Despite trying to overcome the turbulence of several illnesses, it never stopped her from being bright and the life of any party. A beautiful smile with matching sense of humor that continually kept everyone laughing. Her great joy was spending quality time with and showing off her grandson Marcel. They shared a passion for football, although she was forever a Raiders fan.

Carolyn was diagnosed with leukemia in 1991, and in 1993 was given 6 weeks to live. But through the graces of God, and a never give up attitude she lived an additional 30 years. All the while managing a myriad of other major medical problems including breast cancer twice, and a heart transplant which she received on September 10th, 2019.  Obviously the Lord felt there was still work left for her to do.

Carolyn was the oldest grandchild of Lucille and Willie Witt Sr. and was affectionally known as “Rabbit” by her granddaddy. Unofficially deemed the favorite amongst all the cousins. Carolyn could most likely be seen wearing anything and everything Mickey & Minnie Mouse. Which was one of her favorite things to collect along with M&M memorabilia, Legos, purses, pens and watches.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son Cedric, grandson Marcel, parents Willene and Rev. France Davis, sister Grace, brother France II (Melanie), niece Viviene, nephews France III and Benedict, aunts: Lucinda Bagley, Frances Yamada (Ken), Mary Stewart, Betty Jefferson, Eunice Dickerson, Wille Mae Allen, Daisy Richardson, Carrie Davis, Barbara Davis, one Uncle Clarence Davis, and a host of cousins, friends and acquaintances.

Special thanks to the bone marrow team, heart transplant team, kidney dialysis team, cancer doctors, the IMC hospital staff and the Calvary Baptist Church family.

A memorial service to celebrate Carolyn’s life will be on Tuesday, September 14th, 2021 at noon at the Calvary Baptist Church, 1090 South State Street, Salt Lake City.

Carolyn was nothing short of amazing. With everything life threw at her, she had become a fighter for the right things, knew what to stand up for and what to let just blow over. She would sometimes say sassy things that would make you laugh or even blush, but she would always be blunt about things and tell you how it is. Some people couldn't understand that simplicity like that in today's world is needed. She would wonder why the world decided to lose all sense and go crazy, and she would worry about her family Then I would reassure her that she has already given good advice and principles and it is up to them to listen to them.  She enjoyed good food, I know because on a few occasions at work, when we would order take out, for example, Bourbon Orange Chicken Wings with Green Onions and Pecan Honey Crust, she would have me chose for her and say, "I don't disappoint" I would laugh and say I'm Around ( A - ROUND) for a reason. Just like those who are to go forward and meet God are held by Jesus' example, showing kindness, enduring trials, and submitting themselves to the Lord's will. She has been there for me and I will say it has been a comfort, and I hope she will be there to show me the way when my turn eventually comes. Bless you, friend, May you always keep your laugh and smile, Enjoy a raider's game and look after your family from above and send those thoughts and reminders to us frequently about what is good and what we can put behind us.

Words can't begin to describe how much l am going to miss Carolyn. We've been friends for nearly 22 years, instant friends from day one. We started working together when our boys were little, we had so many conversations about our boys, family, lifes ups and downs. So many laughs, good times and shared a few tears. I'll never forget her big laugh and beautiful smile. She was always so fun to be around, sassy, honest, and a true friend that always had my back. I will always carry her memory in my heart, and I know we will share the biggest hug and plenty more laughs when I see her again. My heart goes out to Mr and Mrs Davis, Cedric, Marcel, her siblings and extended family. I hope you all can feel the love that surrounds your family. I love you Carolyn, I'll see you later my friend.

To our daughter, Grace, and the family of Carolyn, we offer our sincere condolences for the lost of your mother, daughter, grandmother and sister.  We don't always understand the why, when and where of God's ways, but we can always be assured that He know best.  Be at peace in knowing that your loved one is no longer suffering; reflect on the memories you shared with her, and remember the smile that displayed her love for you and the Lord whom she served.
