Cecil Patrick Zumwalt
September 9, 1955 - November 4, 2024

Cecil Patrick Zumwalt of Salt Lake City, UT passed away November 4, 2024 at the age of 69, after a long battle with prostate cancer. He spent his last days in the comfort of his home, with his wife, Dixie, beside him.
Cecil was born on September 9, 1955 in Salt Lake City to Jim and Shirley Zumwalt. He attended Dugway High School where he met the love of his life Dixie Argyle. Dixie and Cecil were married July 13, 1974 and Cecil left for Navy boot camp soon after. While he was in the Navy, he attended school in Pensacola, Florida, where he learned the skills he needed to pursue his career as a photographer, before being stationed on the USS Kittyhawk for the remainder of his service. After the Navy, Cecil and Dixie moved back to Dugway where Cecil was a photographer for the Department of the Army until he retired in 2007. During his time at Dugway, Cecil made many friendships and happy memories that he carried with him throughout his life. Cecil and Dixie welcomed their daughter, Kimberly, on March 1, 1982.
Cecil was a loving husband and father. When Kimberly was young, he enjoyed taking her for rides on his motorcycle, hiking and camping. Cecil, Dixie and Kimberly moved to Salt Lake in 1986, where Cecil lived for the remainder of his life. After retirement, Cecil was able to expand his love of woodworking. He worked part time at Woodcraft where he enjoyed sharing his skills and knowledge and made many new friends. His love of beauty and attention to detail made him a skilled artisan.
He enjoyed bowling, eating and visiting with his friends at Ogies, spending time with his family, especially his youngest grandson, Sky, and relaxing at home or in Idaho where he was very happy in the quiet, rural town of Dingle.
Cecil is preceded in passing by his father, James Zumwalt. He will be greatly missed and is survived by his wife Dixie Zumwalt, daughter Kimberly Petter (John), grandsons Chase (Anna), Jayden and Sky Petter, mother Shirley Zumwalt, brother Brad Zumwalt and sister Trina Fitzpatrick.
Cecil’s family would like to thank Hospice for Utah, the doctors and staff at Utah Cancer Specialists, Dr. Landau and Dr. Connor for their continued care and support throughout his battle with cancer.
Cecil’s family is looking forward to visiting and sharing memories with those who knew and loved him. Please join us for a Celebration of Life to be held in his honor on March 14, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S 900 E, Salt Lake City, UT.
In Loving Memory
Words cannot express the sadness I feel at this time. I hope and pray you find comfort knowing that Cecil has gone to a better place to be with those who have gone before. I love you, man! I'll see you on the other side where all our tears and sorrows will be wiped away!

I am saddened to hear of Cecils passing. He was not only a "crush" but friend among few when I lived in Dugway. Dixie, you are only lucky lady to have shared a life with a very good man! Glad his suffering has ended! Treasure the memories!
