Charles Arnold Gunn

Charles Arnold Gunn, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend left this life the morning of March 27th. He was born April 26th, 1952 to Marion Alice Musser and Ralph Charles Gunn in Long Beach, California.
Chuck moved with his family to Utah where he attended Bountiful Junior High and Bountiful High. He attended Utah State University and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He met Christine Perry at a Salt Lake Golden Eagles hockey game, where they reconnected after high school. They were married on December 31, 1983, and together they had two beautiful daughters, Shanon and Kimberly. He was a loving second father to Chris’s daughter Brenda. He loved his daughters as individuals and wanted to see them succeed in whatever they tried.
Brenda has fond memories of road trip vacations in Chuck’s brown station wagon with a card board window (later upgraded to plywood). He would drive and listen to music on the Boombox that was lovingly named the ‘Rock and Roll Zumhofe’. Brenda would wait impatiently for a turn to put on her heavy metal.
Shanon’s love of gardening started with planting tomatoes in the backyard with Chuck. They were always waiting for the day when they could finally enjoy a ripe, juicy tomato. After all, as Chuck always said: “There’s only two things that money can’t buy. That’s true love and homegrown tomatoes”.
Kimmie was Chuck's little performer. Whether it was dancing, singing, acting, or art, he was her number one fan. He always embraced her uniqueness, made her feel important, and encouraged her to be herself.
Chuck enjoyed spending time with family, and his grandkids brought so much joy to his life. He spent time with them making up silly games, shooting hoops, and enjoyed watching their sports, dance and music performances. He always had time to spend with them. He loved each of his sons-in-law as his own. He loved talking music with Sean, following Real Salt Lake with Aaron, and helping with home improvement projects with Josh. He loved reminiscing about old times with his brother Dave, and sister Christina. His grand-puppy, Muffin, was a loyal companion.
Chuck was a hard worker who always supported his family. After working for various companies, he served as warehouse manager at Nelson Laboratories. He retired in 2018 after 22 years of service.
Chuck was a huge fan of the Utah State Aggies. He also loved the Rams, and they were his team, no matter if they won or lost. He also was an avid golfer before a shoulder injury hurt his swing. Chuck really loved all sports and would watch any game he could find on T.V. Game shows were an enjoyable part of his day. He had a unique sense of humor and always had a good dad-joke up his sleeve. He was witty and could find humor in any situation. He could also read a book front to back in no time. He enjoyed reading about his favorite musicians. Chuck loved music and had lots of fun adventures seeing music together as a family. He especially loved the Blue Grass Festival in Deer Valley and Grand Targhee and this is where our cooler became known as the ‘Screamin Cheetah Wheelie’. He loved going up Millcreek Canyon to have cookouts and roast marshmallows. Taco Tuesday was his favorite night of the week.
Chuck was a devoted husband and loved Chris dearly. He was always by her side, in good times or bad. They relied on each other for comfort and support in their 37 years together. He was always so grateful for her loving care, especially as his health declined. Chuck was a kind spirit who was friendly with everyone he met. He will be greatly missed.
Chuck is survived by wife Chris, his daughters, Brenda (Sean), Shanon (Aaron), Kimberly (Christian); his four grandchildren, Madeline, Shaylie, Miles, and Henry. He is also survived by his siblings, David (Lorraine) Gunn, and Christina Gunn Barker; niece and nephews, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and younger brother, Ralph.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.
