December 29, 1925 - April 23, 2008

Charles B. McCurdy returned to his Heavenly Father on April 23, 2008. He was born in Pocatello, Idaho to Charles and Erma McCurdy. He was the youngest of six children. He graduated from Pocatello High School.

Following high school, he served in the Navy during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he served an LDS mission in the Spanish American Mission. While serving in the lower Rio Grande Valley, Charles met his “yellow rose of Texas”, Lela Martinez. After completing his mission, he returned to court his sweetheart. They were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple on October 20, 1949. Charles graduated from Idaho State University in 1954.

He worked in Professional Scouting in California and Europe. Charles decided to pursue a career in teaching and earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Utah in 1973. He began teaching at Dugway Elementary School in Tooele District. Charles was a master teacher. For the next twenty years, hundreds of children were privileged to be taught by “Mr. Mac”. One of Charles’ greatest joys was teaching and associating with his students. Charles was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He faithfully fulfilled many ward and stake callings. He served with his wife in the Jordan River Temple. Charles and Lela raised five sons, His boys will always remember singing with Dad during car trips and family reunions, listening to his poems, father and son barber shop quartets, singing scouting songs with the Grandchildren, and his faithful example of living the gospel.

Charles is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dalila(Lela); his children, Carlos (Susie), Dave (Judy), Richard (Bea), Tico (Tracy), and Michael (Sandra); 25 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers Charles David, Francis, and Bill; and granddaughter Kimberly. Charles’ sons wish to pay tribute to their mom for the loving care she has given for the last seven years since Charles suffered his first stroke.
