Charles 'Bud' Turpin
January 24, 1952 - February 17, 2022
Charles Buddy Turpin, born on January 24th 1952, passed away peacefully while next to his loving wife on February 17, 2022. He was able to spend the last weeks of his life surrounded by his adoring family. The days were filled with warmth, memories, and laughter.
Always ready with a friendly smile and a hearty conversation for anyone he met, Bud was known as a friend to many. Whether it be while on the job through his vending business or earlier years at Jim’s Towing, all who interacted with him were quick to mark him as a significant and caring presence in their lives. He was a beacon of dependability, humor, and a steadfast friend to all in his community.
He loved classic cars, music, and fishing. Many of his family have years worth of memories standing beside him as he worked on his truck, helped them work on their first car, taught them to cast a line, reeled in their first fish with him shouting encouragement, or simply sitting in a comfortable companionship of silence next to him during these hours. He was an anchor of strength to his loved ones and was always there to help them know they could stand up strong throughout anything.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Lee Turpin. They had been together since their junior year of high school when they attended the winter dance together in 1969. They were married just over two years later on February 17, 1972. Before his passing, they were able to toast together to celebrate the monumental achievement of reaching their 50th anniversary.
Bud is also survived by his three sons Troy, Kevin and Paul (Sawsha). His nine grandchildren, and four and half great grandchildren. His siblings Jeanette, David, Donald and James. As well as hundreds of kids and families who knew him as the “Candy Man”.
A celebration of life will be in Bud’s honor on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East Salt Lake City, UT 84106. Bud will be laid to rest in a private family service at Murray City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that a donation be made in his name to the National Kidney Foundation.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Wentworth and Solstice for their assistance in these last weeks.
