Charmaine Holman Luke

July 16, 1932 - May 31, 2012

Charmaine H. Luke was born to Thelda and Ren Holman on July 16th, 1932 in Eureka, Utah.  After her father Ren was killed in a mine cave in, Thelda moved the family to Junction, Utah where Charmaine was raised.  Charmaine enjoyed cheerleading and local dances.  She met and fell in love with her high school sweetheart Bobby Luke.  They were married in the Manti Temple, February 16, 1949.  They lived in Junction until 1955 where Robert and Holly were born.  They moved the family to Salt Lake City in 1960, where Robin (Bobbee) and Rochelle were born. Bob and Charmaine were later divorced but Charmaine always remained close to the Luke family.

Charmaine had many talents. She could build and repair almost anything and was always willing to help anyone in need. One winter, she sewed over 100 hats and gloves and took them to the homeless shelters. She cut her own patterns and made endless articles of dresses, baby clothes, booties for dogs, quilts, etc.

Charmaine was very ambitious and very organized. She sometimes worked two jobs and believed in a strong work ethic.  She worked for over 22 years for Wolcott Optical. Charmaine had a deep love for her savior, Jesus Christ. The last 10 years she has done endless family history and genealogy work.

She loved her children and grandchildren, canaries, wild birds and her dogs and took very special care of them. They were spoiled and adored.

Charmaine is survived by her 4 children, Robert (Julie) Luke, Robin Bobbee Luke (Aaron), Rochelle Beatty (Luis) all Salt Lake City and Holly (Al) Roth of Las Vegas, Nevada; Brother, Darwin (Joanne) Thompson; and Sister Loana (Guy) Price of Junction, Utah. Grandchildren, Dusty, Weston, Keanan, and Tangula; and 5 great grand children.

She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father; and Step father, William Thompson; her grandsons, Christian Parrish and London Kirk Wallace; brothers, Don Thompson and Bill Holman and Sisters; Aleta Tomlinson, Paulma Pearson and Virginia Savage; and Misty, her faithful companion.

Friends may call upon the family for a Wake on Tuesday, June 5th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East. Graveside service will be held at Noon on Wednesday at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1076 East 4580 South.

In Loving Memory

Dear Robin, Rochelle, Holly, Robert and all the rest of the family: We send our condolences and sincere sympathy at the loss of your beautiful mother and grandmother. Aunt Charmaine has been a special part of our lives and she will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her final sufferings with cancer were thankfully brief and I know that she is now free from pain and enjoying a wonderful reunion with those of her family that have passed on before her. I know that because of what Jesus Christ did for us, she will be resurrected amd live again and we will see her again. May the warm memories of her life and the whisperings of the Holy Ghost bring you peace and comfort at this difficult time. Love, The Ren Holman Family

Your mother was such a unique and gracious lady that I can't imagine a world without her. Everyone who knew her, loved her and with good reason. She had a such a good heart. It was such fun exchanging genealogy and emails with her and I'm going to miss that and just knowing she's there. Know that she loved you all so much and you were her world. I still can't believe it is true. Charmaine was always full of life! Each day since her passing I have had so many wonderful memories flooding in to my mind. I remember when she super glued my hand when we cut it with a hacksaw while working on one of her plumbing jobs! I still look at that scar and smile! I was truly blessed to know Charmaine! May all your memories give you comfort and bring a smile to your faces, Rochelle, Bobbee, Holly and Robert, and Keanan. Love you!

I'm very sad. American Splendor the movie made me really like Harvey Pekar's blue clolar, do-it-yourself attitude. His passion, even if often very pessimistic, was inspiring. I really enjoyed The Quitter with Dean Haspiel most recently.
