Clive Bowen Adcock

November 30, 1943 - December 4, 2012

Clive Bowen Adcock
November 30, 1943 – December 4, 2012

Content with his life, Clive passed away December 4, 2012, surrounded by his family.

Clive was born during the war on November 30, 1943 in Reigate, England, where he recalls being sheltered by his mother during air raid sirens. His competitive nature evidenced itself at a young age in swimming. His father was his coach and Clive won many swim meet medals. As a young teen and a child of the '60's, he became more and more interested in music, both vocally and playing the bass guitar and harmonica. His closest friends from swimming formed the band, "The Five Aces" and they went from performing at local venues to opening for bands such as the Beatles and The Rolling Stones, even singing with Tina Turner, to being produced and appearing on television. While playing in the band, he trained as an engineer.

He married Patricia Anne Buckland and they agreed to disagree together for the rest of their lives. His desire to see the world led he and Pat to pack up their belongings and $100 and emigrate to Montreal where he took his first engineering job at a pulp and paper mill in Quevillion. His first son, Craig Brian was born in Quebec and the new family returned to Europe before permanently emigrating to North America. There, the family grew with two more sons, Kirk Edwin and Gregory Zel. Clive joined his dear friend, Bob Walsh, in his instrumentation company where Clive opened offices in Brazil and Europe. His experiences at Walsh Engineering enabled and encouraged him to open his own company, Bowen Engineering. Bowen became recognized around the world as fulfilling a niche in the marketplace. He truly made a positive difference to the mining world, but more importantly, he made the world at large a little bit brighter, a little bit more fun and a little bit more interesting because he made sure that those around him were better off by his contributions. As an International Man of Mystery, Clive took his flying circus to every corner of the globe, from frozen Russia to the deserts of Saudi Arabia. Upon his "retirement" he helped his youngest son build a business which is now established as a successful international company.

All of this work which took him around the world on many adventures was to provide and establish a life for his family. He sacrificed much for the love of his family. His passion for his grandchildren was all-consuming. He was their favorite story-teller sharing many of his made-up tales. He will be missed by all of them, including Caidyn Hope, who lovingly nicknamed her grandfather "Tayg"; Seth Zachary; Rylee Quinn; Jordi Bowen; and Jack.

In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, he leaves behind his daughters-in-law Jo, Stacey and Rosie; and his sister Julie (Brian) Spencer.

A celebration of Clive's life will be held at the family home in Park City, at 2:00pm, on the 9th of December 2012. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Clive's name to "The Miami Project" in pursuit of the cure for paralysis at www.miamiproject.miami.edu.

Arrangements entrusted to Starks Funeral Parlor. Online condolences may be offered to the family and memorial tribute may be viewed at www.starksfuneral.com

I was very saddened by the news of Clive's passing. I started working for Clive in 1996, right after Bowen Engineering changed to Kvaerner Bowen. My eight years under Clive's leadership were very rewarding and there was no one in the industry with his vision. Clive thank you for allowing me to be part of this vision and sucess, I will miss you.

So sorry to hear of Clive's passing. I knew Clive as a teenager and for a brief moment in time sang for his group, The Five Aces. We worked together as trainees at Foxboro Yoxall in Redhill, Surrey. I too was a keen swimmer but still never good enough to beat Clive. We competed on a number of ocassions in school competitionns and work swimming galas. We lost touch when I moved away from Foxboro and subsequently, in 1967, emigrated to Australia. I have forgotten many people over the years but Clive has always been in my thoughts when reminiscing about "the good old days" Rest in peace mate.
