Cynthia Elizabeth Maw

June 27, 1955 - November 17, 2023

Cynthia Maw was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up in both Portland and Detroit. She was a devoted lifelong member of the Church of Christ, Scientist. Cynthia graduated from Michigan State University and did post-graduate work at San Diego State University. She worked as a paralegal in Portland and then joined the family rental car business in Salt Lake City. She was active in the Utah Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners and volunteered with the Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce, mentoring small business owners. Later in life, Cyn was a much-valued administrator for various small businesses.

Cynthia was a funny woman with a great sense of humor. She loved her friends, her family, her pets, her religion, exploring the world and asking questions (she was nosy). She had a gift for helping in ways most of us can’t. Five senior dogs from SLC Golden Rescue spent the last years of their lives in Cynthia’s loving care. When one of her beloved dogs died, she had the strength and heart to say, “Ok who needs me next?” She had a lot of fun and was fun to be with, whether traveling, hiking, camping, cooking, gardening, watching movies or enjoying game night. Cynthia will be lovingly remembered. She is survived by her two brothers and a plethora (her word) of good friends.

In Loving Memory

My wife Jean and I lived 2 houses north of Cindy for 29 years. Cindy will always be a treasured neighbor. She was always thoughtful kind and great fun. She was loved by us and everyone on Filmore Street. We are deeply saddened to hear of her passing. Filmore Street won't be the same without her.

I can't believe she is gone.  We met 47 years ago in Portland, Oregon when she came to work where I did. We hit it off immediately and remained friends even after she moved to Salt Lake City to join her family in their business. We stayed in touch with each other over the years.  Cindy loved sailing and joined my husband and I on many of our sailing trips over the years.    Cindy was incredibly bright, had a great sense of humor and  loved to laugh.  She wrote beautifully, turning common events into hilarious stories. I will miss her more than words can express.  Lovingly, Susan Greene
