Darlene L Handy

February 18, 1956 - March 12, 2017

Darlene L Handy born Darlene L Chlarson passed away suddenly in her home at the age of 61. Darlene was born on February 18, 1956 to Glen and Bertha Chlarson. After enjoying her adolescence and graduating high school, she went on to marry her high school sweetheart and best friend, Daren Handy.

The two married on October 10, 1974 and were unstoppable from that day on. Shortly after joining their lives together they decided to start a family. Seven years and many adventures later, they were now a family of six. She was so proud of the four beautiful children she brought into this world; Joe, Nicole, Adam and Travis. She loved caring for her family and others immensely, which influenced her passion to become a nurse. After earning her R.N. degree at Weber State College, she started her lifelong career helping others as if they were her own. During her time as a R.N. she worked at Intermountain Organ Recovery, making many friends along the way both co-workers and patients alike. She eventually landed at IMC in the Cardio Cath Lab, where she was known for her sense of humor and compassion. She had a rich craving for exploration and loved to travel. She and Daren's passion to see the world eventually led them to take up sailing. They found true sailing partners with Darlene's lifelong best friend, Angie and her partner Dewie, making memories that will last a lifetime.

She loved the sunshine. Her ideal sunny day would be spent reading a book out by the pool, soaking up the rays. Some of her most cherished moments were the Handy Holidays with her husband, children and grandchildren. The love everyone felt from her at home and in life was beyond measure. She will be deeply missed and remembered evermore for the mark that she left on this world. Though her smile, contagious laugh, and kind heart have become a memory, that memory has now become a treasure. May we all hold her in our hearts and never forget a wife, mother, daughter and friend that brought so much joy to everyone's lives.

Darlene is survived by her husband of 42 years, Daren Handy; her four children Joe (Mindy) Handy, Nicole (Brian) Hudson, Adam (Melissa) Handy, and Travis (Sherilyn) Handy; six grandchildren Tanner, Hunter, Haley, Cole, Pyper & Ella. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents Glenn and Bertha Chlarson; and her sisters Lori & Sandy.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 20th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking provided on the north side of the building.

May peace and comfort find you and your family during this difficult time. May you grieve not rather find strength in what remains behind, your family and friends. Daren, I love you both and will miss Darlene until we meet again. Janet

Sam and I love you. You will be missed so very much -- we are both simply heartbroken. The world will be a darker place without you. Daren, you have so much family around you - we are here for you forever and always. Come see the beach that I know Darlene would have loved. Holler if there is even the smallest thing either of us can do to help you and the rest of our crazy family.
