David George Downs

July 27, 1971 - February 1, 2019

David George Downs passed away on February 1, 2019 tragically and unexpectedly.

David was born on July 27, 1971 to Lawrence Charles & Erron Leiloa Downs. He left an impression on all who knew him or even came in contact with him throughout his short life – he was known as our gentle giant. He was always sharing of his time, talents, money (“I’ll bet you a dollar”), his knowledge, (“seriously”) & Aloha with others – with his family & friends or just strangers on the bus. He was the most loyal, faithful, hardworking, giving, compassionate, fun-loving, sincere & matter-of-fact man we knew. He worked hard so that he could play hard & he did. There was always another adventure to be had. He loved books & his music. If there wasn’t any music playing he would be singing! He loved to scuba dive, hike, watch the stars, explore & dig for all different kinds of minerals & anything that had to do w/geology fascinated him. He was brilliant & knew so much about so many things, as his mind was always working to figure out the how, who, what, when, where or why about it. He loved his three precious ones dearly, which is how he would always refer to his children & would drag them around everywhere when they were younger chasing answers & having adventures. He had the time of his life with his wife, who he lovingly referred to as “Foxy,” & he was her handsome Hawaiian Hottie!

David faithfully served a mission for the Lord, in the Toronto Canada Mission, “eh,” for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has now finished his work here on this earth. We can only imagine that the reunion with his grandparents & father was priceless as they welcomed him home.

He is survived by his children, Meilani, Ammon and Samuel; mother Lei; his six siblings Scott (Susie), Sandy (Jeanie), Christine (Tim), Leslie (Jay), Matthew (Mandy), and Jennifer. He is also survived by the love of his life – his wife, Michelle Winsor Downs, as well as her son Max, the whole Winsor family & so many nieces & nephews & great nieces & nephews who absolutely adore him.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 9th at 11:00 AM at the LDS Ward located at 272 Main Street, Farmington, UT.

There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they are gone the light remains – that describes our David George Downs perfectly. We love you Kawika & will see you again!

In Loving Memory

My first friend, my longest friend, my brother. I’m sad.

He was always joking and laughing and his laugh was infectious! It was in the quiet moments that he would sincerely ask the important questions. He was fiercely protective of me, his little sister. Even in death I know he is doing all he can to protect me.

David, my brother, was a gentle giant. He was my big brother and he was bigger than life. In the last 6 months I'd never seen him happier. He finally figured out what life was all about. I know that he is taking care of now and that I'll see him again. E hele me ke akua e kuʻu hoahānau aloha.

He was one of the kindest men I've ever known. His smile and laugh was infectious. He always told me he loved my chicken long rice. Fly with the angels, David. Uncle and I will love you forever.

When we had an organ to move out of our basement, I ask three friends including Dave to help me move it. Dave immediately lifted it nearly by himself all the way to the truck as the rest of us only tried to help. He is always willing to help with what needs to be done. A good man, a good friend.

Dave's daughter and my daughter were friends in kindergarten. I remember Dave best for regularly bringing his large, colorful pet bird on his shoulder when he picked up his daughter from school. What a guy! I bet he did it just to make the children smile, which seemed like his specialty. I am sorry for your loss.
