David Kay Anderson

Dave was born in Randolph, New York, and raised on the family farm with his brother and two sisters. While there was always plenty of work to do, there were ample open roads that Dave and his brother took advantage of as they started car racing on dirt tracks all over upstate New York. It was his work ethic and adventurous spirit that truly set Dave apart.

After high school, Dave joined the Army where he served with the 44th Infantry Division and was part of the World War II allied invasion in France. Dave was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions during the war, and he was extremely proud when he received his medal. After returning home and being discharged from the Army, Dave married Eunice Mae Brown, and they started their family.

Dave attended Carnegie Institute of Technology, receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was hired by Sperry Rand (later Sperry Univac, Univac, Unisys) and moved his family to Long Island, New York. As part of the missile defense engineering team, Dave was asked by the company to transfer to Salt Lake City, Utah. The family moved, and Dave enjoyed introducing his family to new adventures that included camping, skiing, hunting, and numerous other sports and cultural pursuits. It was also during this time that Dave enrolled in the University of Utah and earned a Master of Engineering Science Degree.

Dave was always active and busy. He enjoyed auto and motorcycle racing, skiing, bowling, and camping, but farming was always in his blood. After he retired from Unisys, he and Eunice bought ten acres in Bluffdale, Utah, and built a new home and a barn where they raised and trained horses. Dave continued to ski well into his 90s with two dear friends. The three loved to brag about skiing for free once they reached the age of 80.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, wife Eunice, and brother Wendell. He is survived by his two sisters, Norma and Merrilyn; daughter Sandy (Howard), daughter Becky, and son Don (Jayne); grandchildren Franklin (Jamie), Jillian (Shawn), Nick (Char), and Maggie (James); and two great granddaughters (and they are great!) Kaitlyn and LuLu.

The family would like to thank Elevation Hospice for the professional care and kindness they provided Dave, allowing him to take his last lap with dignity and grace. We will always have a special place in our hearts for Amy, Beverly, and Rudy.

A celebration of Dave’s remarkable life will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking on the north side of the building.
