David Lee Martin

May 18, 1952 - June 19, 2025

David Lee Martin was born on May 18, 1952, in Reading, Pennsylvania, the youngest of three children born to Dorothy Oliva and Paul Otis Martin. He was the beloved brother of Thomas and Pauline. As a preacher’s kid, David was raised in the church, where he discovered his love and talent for music. A gifted pianist, guitarist, and singer, he was known for directing the choir and using his musical gifts to uplift others.

David attended Reading high school, where he excelled in both football and basketball. His passion for sports continued throughout his life. He loved golf. tennis, bowling, and racquetball. He was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles. A true whiz at puzzles, David enjoyed tackling the most difficult challenges and always had a curious and analytical mind.

In 1972, David proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Over a distinguished 20-year career, he rose to the rank of technical sergeant and served around the world, including Hawaii, Okinawa, Turkey, and Oklahoma. He especially cherished his time in Turkey. As an IT manager in Hawaii and Okinawa, he developed a deep passion for technology that stayed with him throughout his life.

On July 16, 1977, David married the love of his life, Rita Louise Martin. Together, they raised two sons, Rodney K. Martin and Darren D. Cooper, in Utah. He also cherished his daughter, Nerreda Cooper, and two bonus daughters, Shavon Daniels and Tori Stinson, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

David was a dedicated and active member of the Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. France A. Davis. His service included: The Audio/Visual Ministry where he enhanced the worship experience and mentored several youth in the church. He served with The Kitchen ministry, contributing to meals and community fellowship, and the security ministry, working alongside Deacon Wayne Hesleph to ensure the safety of the congregation. His love for people extended beyond the church walls. David was deeply involved in community service, always ready to help those in need. He was admired for his generosity, warmth, and unwavering dedication.

A true car enthusiast, David fulfilled a dream when he purchased a candy apple red

1992 Toyota MR2, a car he cherished, even as his family “literally outgrew it.” After retiring from the military, David began a second career at Clearfield Job Corps, where he served as a student services accountant from 1992 until 2025. His commitment to the students and the center was evident in his longstanding service and the many lives he touched along the way.

David departed this life on June 19, 2025. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Rita; his children; his grandchildren Savon, Arija, and Elan; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. David’s legacy of love, laughter, service, and music lives on in all who were blessed to know him. His memory will forever be etched in our hearts.
